Shogun towing

Advice please. Have an automatic shogun, long wheel base, diesel. So confused. Hand book says when towing even on roads to use 4 wheel drive but many people have told me not to. That on tarmac, stick to 2 wheel drive. Mitsubishi garages say must be 4 wheel drive. Help needed please.

4x4 for towing on tarmac is fine as long as the diff lock isn't engaged .

I always pop my LWB auto Shogun into 4x4 for towing, though tbf it copes fine if I forget to do so.

I had a Pajero years ago and never used 4wd when towing unless conditions warranted it. Odd!

if the Mitsubishi dealer says 4 wheel drive then that's what it is otherwise you invalidate your warranty or may cause damage to the vehicle over time.

Always use 4x4 with my Shogun when towing. That’s what it says in the handbook.

We always tow the horse trailer in 4 wheel drive, not because it is strictly necessary but it gives the set up a more 'planted' feeling. If towing a caravan I don't always bother but it is lighter. If in doubt use FWD, it won't affect your economy much.

I tend to use it on my LWB Shogun but tbh it doesn’t drive any different when I forget ?
