Hi there, my dogs need some equipment (Liberty is using a borrowed collar and harness at the moment) and I was hoping for some recommendations.

Both dogs, Monster (malinois cross) and Liberty (Australian shepherd) need new collars having mutually destroyed their old ones and I'm struggling to decide what to get. They wear their collars pretty much full time with tags attached and I do use them to clip their leads onto (especially Monster, Liberty uses the harness more) so I need something comfy for them but solid.

For the harness, I'll probably get Liberty a Copenhagen dog one like Monster's as I quite like those.

Also, Liberty needs a bed. Both dogs sleep in my room and Monster has a massive bed made from a pallet. There's no way I can get a second one of those in my room! Libby currently has an open crate with some vet bed down and a scrunched up fleece blanket is she wants more comfort but she seems to sleep either on the wooden floor or scrape the vet bed away and sleep on the plastic tray of the crate. She occasionally sleeps on the bottom of the curtains. She has a tendency to eviscerate anything with stuffing in if she can. I really don't know what to get her, if she will use it or if she will destroy it. Any suggestions?

Tuffies beds here - had them since about 2009 for our previous dogs, and currently the 2 we have now. One is a chewer but (touching wood quickly) but he hasn't bothered with these so far. He also prefers lying on the plastic tray in the crate. We also had a bed made for the back of the car by Maximum Pet Products, after the chewer destroyed sheets, towels and a bed and again he hasn't bothered with that one, although we did take the label off.

Collars - not sure, depends whether you want webbing, leather?

Thanks, I'll have a look at the Tuffies beds. Glad it's not only mine that seems to prefer the plastic tray!

That's the problem for the collars, I really don't know what I want... I suppose it doesn't really matter for Libby as it won't exactly be very visible. Monster came with a rather nice leather collar (destroyed by Libby). I bought him an emergency collar that is doubled leather online, but I find it too thick and too wide. Nothing in the pet food shop I go to has caught my attention yet.

Purdey's every day "splashing through and rolling in who knows what" collar is one of the ezydog double up collars and its really good quality. I also like the double rings over the clip as a just in case (even though we use a slip lead most of the time I think this is a clever design). She only wears hers when out but they do have some more padded styles too. We have an agility style name tag on it which I much prefer to the dangly ones that seem to fall off every 5 minutes.

She then has a nice le mieux leather one that I bought her the day we put a deposit down on her 😍

I've just ordered Libby a name tag (she's currently wearing the pony's one!). It's a normal dangly one, but monster managed to keep his for about four years (until Libby pulled it off with his collar). I would eventually like to get them both agility style tags to go on harnesses as a back up.

I'm a collar addict but it depends on what you're after. For biothane I would recommend Hounds and Home. Critical Impact which Murphys Minder has shared do some really lovely fabric collars. I don't have any 'normal' leather collars but Pear Tree Tannery did my favourite hound collars and they do other styles too.

I only tend to use Indi-dog or ruffwear for harnesses as it's the escapee hounds who wear them but I do like my perfect fit harness that Ginny wears. Lauren at H+H is doing me a custom biothane harness for the low rider as all his fabric harnesses end up disgusting in the wetter weather.

I can't help on beds as mine are either hound diva princesses who have the snuggle beds or destructive knobbers who have blankets instead 🤣

If you want a stainless steel tag that slides on to the collar I recommend Indigo collar tags , they also sell collars as well. I’ve had these tags for at least 15 years and the collars for the same length of time, 3 of my dogs were swimmers and the tags are still as good as new. I heard about them from Dobiegirl on here..

Tuffies are very good l have a few and they’ve lasted well. More recently l’ve bought HiK9 ones because they’re easy to wash and sit a bit above the ground. They do a range of covers which work well. It’s much better in the long run to spend a bit more money and both of these have survived all sorts!
