so I thought I would hack this morning as weather over weekend looking dodgy - did the sensible thing - waited until after rush hour then drove the road to check no one had put flags all the way along - although not a mega busy road but I didnt want dex walking along with arse in middle of road avoiding flags !

got on, went out - eventually got off road and thought great, time for a bit of a relaxing canter ! trotted - saw walker & called hello - she answered then her whippet ran hell for leather straight at us (never seen anything move so fast) dex spooked but was fine - I think her dog was just coming over to see my dog who comes out with us - she apologised grabbed dog - I trotted off and when a good distance away cantered - next thing I know I see the whippet out of the corner of my eye - it has come tearing up the side of us - dex catches sight of it out of corner of eye and in canter does a mid air 180 degree spin and I end up on the floor ! jumped up and started after Dex (yelling towards girl who owned dog - grab him he could break a leg) - I was terrified his reins were going to go over his head and he would trip - he was cantering straight downhill - fairly steep - luckily he stopped after me making nice "whose a good boy noises" at him.

Poor girl was mortified - she said dog had got away from her after she had grabbed it - I said "these things happen" - she looked pretty shook up.

so outcome of ride = wet jods and top - bruised knee & hip, grazed and swollen forearm and very bruised and swollen left thumb ! did all my shopping then popped to A&E to get them to check thumb wasnt broken - nurse and doctor wanted to xray - luckily xray showed it isnt broken but I made sure I did my shopping first just in case (as wouldnt have been insured to drive with cast!)

Fair play to A&E at Weston - they were great ! just under 1.5 hours from getting there to getting out and that was with xray as well - I must have beat the bank holiday rush haha !

Hope everyone elses rides have gone better ! first time I have come off in years and the funniest thing was after hitting the deck I wasnt shaken up at all or bothered only concerned about Dex running off downhill - when I got back on we trotted off then did some lovely canters (until I dropped my crop but was near road by then so drove back for it)

Have taken ibuprofen to stop thumb swelling and thought a nice few glasses of rum tonight might be a good idea (tbf they are always a good idea !)

PS our's was eventful.. we were riding down through the woods and a big log round come thundering down the hill to our left, the side of a wheelbarrow!! It hit a tree and veered off at the last min!! haha

Oh dear, some spins are just impossible to stay on. I don't know if I'd have been so understanding towards the lady with the whippet mind, so well done for remaining polite!! Hope you're ok.

Oh dear, hope you feel better.
This is how I thought I was going to end up as my mare was acting like a hyperactive child on the yard (wouldn't stand still, freaking herself out)
But overall had a lovely hack :) uneventful... Apart from when she spooked sideways suddenly cus she noticed a crack in the road

Silly mare :/

Very steep woods on my left and could hear them chain sawing up the top, did think I hope a tree doesn't fall on my head, but figured they were far away... then saw a big ginger dog hurtling towards us, was only when it got nearer I realised it was a round!!!!! lol

Well done you for coping, and well done for being understanding to the lady with the dog. I only ever get cross at the people who dont TRY to catch or control their dogs and try and educate the ones who try their best, it sounds as if she wont take any chances next time, just a shame you had to suffer and be the crash dummy for her.....she should get you some wine and chocs I reckon (and good chocs too) :-)
