Hi...
I have had my lovely 15 year old cob mare since November 2012. We have been getting on like a house on fire. She is out 24/7 with two mares and two geldings. She had a season about a month after being in the field and it only lasted a few days, I hardly noticed any change in her whatsoever. I try and see her everyday, even if it is to just get her in and give her a groom, straighten rugs and pick feet out etc. We enjoy hacking, schooling etc.

When I go to the field gate and call her, she will look up, urinate and then walk towards me. Everytime I go to get her in now no matter what time of day she will pee before walking towards me. I have tried getting a friend to bring her in but she only seems to do it with me. I'm not at all worried I was just wondering if anyone else's horse does this and if anyone could give me any ideas as to why? :)

Mine also does this. Always has to wee before walking over to me to come in. Will be interesting to see what people say about why as I have always wondered myself.

My last horse was very odd with his "peeing" behaviour!!

Every day after I topped up stable with some fresh bedding he'd pee (no matter what time of the day I did it). Then he'd pee again as soon as his hay went in?! ...even though he'd already pee'd on his bed and had next to nothing left!!

He was a creature of habbit! He was an odd ball, but I loved him!! :p

Mine does, whether he's in the field or in his stable. Its quite handy really, as if I'm quick, I can catch it in a bucket when he's in, saves me a fortune in bedding!!! Its defiantly something to do with seeing me, don't know whether to be pleased or insulted! :D:

My horse used to do exactly this when he lived out. It started after I was schooling and he was quite naughty, as soon as I got off and led him out of the school he went for a huge wee on the tarmac - unusual really as he doesn't like the splash ;), so I always wondered if he was so uncomfortable when ridden that time that he empties himself when he see's me just in case. Another thing according to my physio is they can do it as a release from stress. No idea really although he never does it now we've moved yards. :)

There was a horse at a yard where I worked who would wait till his clean bedding went in then pee, so we would make sure we were waiting with a wheel barrow to wheel under him to catch it :P

Odd animals... I know my boy has a habit of going to the loo when he's chucked out in a morning, and will only go in the stable if he's bursting. In 3 weeks I didn't find a single wet patch in his bed... saves me a fortune on shavings!

My gelding often does this when I go to catch him or call him from the field. A friend of mine has a mare who ALWAYS wees when she turns up to see her - every single time.
