So with little coblet having injured his annular ligaments, he’s booked in for surgery early May. Then having to undergo a fairly lengthy inhand walking and return to fitness program thats me realistically without a ride until the autumn and I was soooo looking forward to a summer of fun rides and getting out and about with pals. Do you think anyone would sort term loan a horse or pony for 6 months and where would be the best place to look?

I’m sure there will be but most want them loaned in winter then to come home over summer when they get back from uni etc.

Word of mouth and Facebook are generally the best places to look. Also ask your yard, someone may be looking a rider for even a day or two a week.

You might find a hunter that someone is happy to loan out until next season. Or something like an older polo pony that no longer has a job. Or could you buy a project (ex racehorse or something) that you could bring on a bit, enjoy and sell on?

Literally about to pick up the very thing next week, for the same reason, so it is possible.

Also loan agreements do include a break clause that either side can end the loan with notice so I would guess you could invoke that. Probably a little unfair if the owner’s expecting the loan to be longer but I bet plenty of people do it!

A neighbour is taking on a loan for the summer as the owner doesn’t have time to ride 2 so there are folk out there who don’t have the time/have other things they would like to do over the summer.

A share might be an option too so you can get a few days riding a week without taking on the full time responsibility of another while your rehabbing. Hope something turns up for you

Thanks all, I’m putting feelers out so you never know. A local share may be a good idea also as you say a couple of days riding with much lesser workload and responsibility. I’ll be busy inhand walking and rehabbing my coblet after his (hopefully successful) surgery but I do miss riding, particularly hacking for the relaxation aspect.

Well rather unbelievably a local lady put on a FB post looking for a riding sharer for a 16.1 horse she has and when we exchanged messages last night she has a 2nd that she mentioned my daughter could ride also. We’re hopefully going to see her and the horses at the weekend, I’m just not sure what she is looking for in terms of a commitment as hopefully coblet should make a good recovery and be riding again late summer but it’s definitely worth a conversation so I’m a little more optimistic. There are other liveries at coblets yard but disappointingly not one has even offered me a weekly ride but I guess the weather is improving now and they all want to get out after a bad winter.
