Over the past few years I've had a pair of short laceup Ariat Harper boots and now a pair of Ariat Moresby boots - mainly for yard work and walking the dog. Not cheap, however both pairs started letting in water after a few months which I don't think is acceptable. I like the style though, can anyone recommend something similar which actually remains waterproof for more than a few months??

The best short boots i have ever had that lasted 20 years were redbacks. They aren't fancy ones but they sure do the job. I am considering getting some more when I have the money. My friend has had hers for nearly 30 years and they are still going strong. They aren't fashion boots but they do the job.

This included all the times we had to dip for foot and mouth.

Most waterproof boots around aren't designed to be covered in acidic horse pee... hence why they tend to leak so quickly unlesss washed off and looked after every day.

Can't help, sorry but I'm glad you started the thread, as I am contemplating buying some new yard boots and was looking at Ariats, so I now I won't bother with those. Thank you

I've had my Ariat Harpers a good year now and are still waterproof - but they don't go anywhere near pee or sea water, and are ridiculously well looked after.

I love my Mountain Horse stable/jodhpur boots. Held up really well and I find them comfortable. They do a protective version too which I might upgrade to when I need a new pair.

I'm still an Ariat fan. The Harper Sherpa boots have so far been great. Just bought a pair of Skyline Solaris boots, mainly for hiking, which aren't leather, but very lightweight and waterproof ( fingers crossed ) . Currently half price.
I have some Mountain Horse boots, which aren't used daily, but are still going strong after 13 years.

I definitely don't get pee on them and am pretty good at looking after them (cleaning/conditioning) so it's disappointing that they're not lasting long - I will look into the recommendations above though and report back! Thank you all

I've got a pair of mountain horse spring river long boots and they're amazingly comfy - but I did try a pair of snowy river (I think) short boots and they rubbed my heels raw!

I use the Shires version of Tellurides after arguable quality from Ariat.

They are regularly used on the yard, dog walking and hiking and regularly exposed to horse wee & poo, mud, sea/pond/river water and are fabulous. They get utterly, utterly abused (life is too short to clean boots regularly IMHO 🤣) and just keep on going!

I'm about to buy the zip version as I love them so much.

That's good to know, I was looking at them at Badminton and they were roughly half the price of Ariats. I use my Ariats for every day but not in mud, I use wellingtons for that. But I was feeling I should get some more to wear for best and not smell of farmyard and horse smells. But I didn't know how the Shires "copy" would wear.

I had Ariats for years but I was becoming less impressed with the quality.

I've just checked my emails and it looks like I bought my first Shires pair in September 2023, they have been abused and are still trooping on and on.

P.S I don't wear them in proper mud (I use wellies too) but they've certainly coped with coming across muddy patches out walking or in fields in non-winter months after a bit of rain :)
