Hello...

We are considering a fairly substantial move to somewhere within a 10 mile radius of Barnard Castle. It's our intention to buy some land and a farmhouse up there. Until we find what we're looking for, we're going to have to rent somewhere fairly close to BC - that's where our children will be going to school. I'll be moving my 17hh eventer up there, and my daughter's pony, and possibly a pony for my son, too - but that might come a bit later.

Can anyone who has a moment or two tell me how much DIY is, and where to look re livery. Because the horses come first, I'd rather find a suitable place for them and then rent something in the vicinity whilst we're looking :D.

Many thanks indeed,

L

The only one I know is Streatlam Park? Lovely lovely area (jealous!), you could try the county durham riders FB page or ner riders forum too? :)

Oo, thank you. Will check out County Durham Riders FB page. It is so lovely there. We have been wanting to move for a while - we were thinking Norfolk (I'm an East Anglia girl), but it would be a very long time before we could find our smallholding dream there. And we need shot of this millstone of a house as soon as possible. We were just next door to Streatlam Park last week whilst we were doing our house hunting/where would we like to live foray - but all we could see were big signs saying 'private' and 'keep out' and a large brick wall ;). I was wondering who has the spotty horse stud up there, too - just outside BC.

Streatlam is lovely and they have regular comps there, lovely arena/xc course too - I am sure there are more yards it's just a bit too far south for my local knowledge! The hills are better up north ;) :D OH is from lincs which seems oddly flat to northern me!! Lots of lovely little pubs and walks in weardale/teesdale too, love it there :D

Thank you so much for all your suggestions - and those that have pm'd me. I will reply to pms. - I can't seem to on my mobile. Mouldron looks fabulous - don't know if we will end up that side of Barney yet, but will certainly bear in mind. I did look very enviously at the Stable blocks every time we drove past - it seems bigger than the house!

There is quite a big yard near Lartington, I think it would be Raygill 07738 531 796.

I guess Shy's Mum is the one to speak to - I'm not far away from Barny either, just across the moors at Kirkby Stephen..... *waves at Shy's Mum*!

Thank you all. I will get in contact as soon as something happens this end. I was just putting out the preliminary feelers - sorry that we're not moving yet - small matter of selling this house first. Which is hugely frustrating as the perfect place with 12 acres not 4 miles from Barney came on the market yesterday. Gah. I envisage we'll be moving by April, hopefully, if this house sells. They are going like hotcakes around here right now; but ours is a Grade II listed thatched rambling farmhouse with no land. Buyers for it will be few and far between.

Hi, the best livery yard in the area is Raygill equestrian centre www.raygillequestrian.co.uk the phone number is 07740072709. They have outdoor arena, XC course and miles of off road hacking. They do DIY / part and full livery.
Hope you have a safe move.
Caroline.
