village idiot :D
Some of you may remember that I bought a lovely mare through a poster on here and she had a freak accident and broke, badly, within two weeks of us buying her. Then whilst we were waiting to see if she would recover I bought henryhorn's gorgeous and very cuddly Flynn. Believe it or not he also had a different but similarly disastrous freak accident at the end of January. Amongst various other things he has torn a ligament at L4 and taken a chunk of bone (spine!) with it.
He has been on box rest since and on Tuesday he was reassessed by the vet. He still isn't right and he doesn't track up on the lunge, he still has difficulty getting up and down BUT after my vet making me nearly cry by saying "He's crippled" I said. "Let's let him off the lunge and see if he does something spectacular" - meaning his nice big floaty trot to impress his new girlfriend in the next field.
Oh he did spectacular all right!
He did one circuit bucking and farting, then bounced out over the electric fence - a single strand, no groundline or anything and blowing in the breeze - and was going for a serious go at the five bar gate at the end of the orchard. He started to pick up for it but thank god he put down again - the ground on the other side is way too soft to be safe. I was screaming "No Flynn, wait" and the vet just looked gobsmacked and said "Christ he's got a pop in him, he really thought he might have that gate".
So after that demonstration the vet has said bring him back into work and see if we can muscle him up and get him back to where he was when we first got him.
So I'm very happy, I'm even happier because I've been comfort eating - two broken horses just did it for me - so I'm too heavy to ride him but when i suggested to my daughter that we sent him away for rehab she said "No way, why should B have the fun of riding him, he's my horse" and disappeared upstairs. She reappeared three minutes later in jods and said "Right I'm off to take Flynn out now then". My second huge surprise of the day because she's normally pretty shattered after school and needs to chill out for an hour or so - but no, Flynn was fit and she wanted to be on him!
Hope it brought a smile to someone else's face!
