I was interested in Scratchline's opinion that hunt monitors should carry weapons to prevent hounds accidentally chasing foxes by gunning them down.

Does the concept of hunt monitors strafing packs of hounds using machine guns mounted on gyrocopters appeal to people?

Not than posting on a forum, though I clearly dont have quite as much spare time on my hands as you, but to keep returning to the 'Hunting Forum' and posting ridiculous questions.

Its debating an oppinion..

I dont think Giles is doing anything diffrent then anyone else.. except having his own ,(maybe warped at times, hehe) Sense of humour...

Maisey, find a sense of humour, you might find you like his little gibes.. I certainly do.

I shall watch the result carefully whilst polishing my spare guns in preparation for a winning vote ))

I'd like to thank Giles for drawing attention to the practice of firing a bullet into a hound's head. No, I'm not talking about sabs or antis. I'm talking about what hunts do to their "cute" hounds if they're no good at hunting. BANG!

he was no longer up to chasing deer but he had a good life so there you go

He and his sister even got a red deer to stand at bay on two occasions in the stream

hounds are not always shot, the male are often sent to other packs to bring in new bloodlines to breed and the girls- if not too old breed. yes they are shot at the end of their days, but isnt everything? we put our dogs down...? so really its no different to what the rest of the world do to their dogs in the end!
and yes we put a bullet in their head, but thats quick, just as kind as PTS. nothing wrong with it, thats our choice....
and no i dont think hunt monitors should be armed, that could be one of the most dangerous things the government could bring in.... partly because the anits wont know how and when to shoot a gun, and therefore will endanger everyone around them..... but tbh most anits are armed anyway.... but if it was allowed, it would be bl00dy dangerous...

The antis wouldnt know how or when to shoot a gun?? PMSL Its not the ''antis'', who claim they cannot cleanly kill a fox but mostly wound them. Only for them to go off and die a cruel death, is it?!
Really perdy, what a silly thing to say. This nonsense about anti's is the very reason you lost the right to hunt. You underestimated the very people who condemed your blood sport and lost the battle to keep on killing.

So, for a laugh, what training do you "pro's", have with firearms sweetie?

24683137 Irish Guards ( Will always be a Mick), started my shooting on Hythe Ranges ) I think it is fairly obvious some of us are trained to a very high standard with various weapons but of course my response was to the blanket remark about anti hunters. The reality is that many out shooting animals are very clearly unsafe/incapable of doing so correctly and shouldnt IMO be out wounding wild animals.

You are of course an exception to that group and I didnt expect all pro hunters to be untrained. I think it was perdy generalising )

But you are. In fact it's a close run thing who's the most uptight and humourless - you or eagle_day.

The only peer reviewed scientific research on wounding rates shows the same proportion of kills to woundings irrespective of the skill level of the shooter.

Skilled marksmen both kill AND wound more animals. Unskilled marksmen miss more.

So shouldn't we regulate all killing of foxes on the basis of least cruelty? Rather than banning one where another can cause more suffering?

I suppose anything is possible. This will of course come down to what is classed as the most cruel. IMO it is less cruel to shoot a fox than chase it down with and allow hounds to kill it.
I have said before, that is what I would choose for myself. I would rather be shot than killed by dogs so in my opinion the law is correct.) Answered lol

In your opinion.

Of course the review that the government commissioned and on which it promised to base any legislation found otherwise.

How about hunting deer with hounds? Did Burns suggest other ways of culling deer which were better from an animal welfare perspective?

The law bans deer from being flushed out with dogs and one deer being followed and then shot at point blank range.

Instead ten guns have to be mounted in order to kill an entire herd if one is present as it is fleeing.

Do you think that is a preferable outcome?

I would have thought that cruelty based legislation would not require such a thing.

Then again according to you the deer can be flushed out and chased with dogs anyhow so the whole thing seems to be a mess.
