Should I bath my horses before clipping them?

Just to ensure a neat clip really. In the past I have had quite noticeable lines in the clip which I think were caused by dirt trapped in the coat.

I was thinking of bathing them & ensuring they are completely dry before clipping this year but as it's getting colder I'm reluctant to bathe them unnecessarily.

Ideally yes, but not many of us live in an ideal world with drying rooms etc, so you risk getting them cold. If not, give them a thorough groom every day for a week beforehand... (strapping in the old days..)

In a word - yes

The dirt means that the blades running through the coat is like cutting sand paper with scissors. Pick a warm part of the day and dry them off with a towel. We've used warm water as well before as no one likes a cold bath.
