Should I be worried

Ive just received a statment of the vets for Sid (horse I loan) and it shows an old balance on it from jan, now sids owner pays for everything bar shoes (lucky) so I tried to email her and ask her if she paid it and her email address itsnt working saying mail delivery returned. Anyway I get money of her today and that hasnt come in either so ive texted her and she hasnt replied! Im worried I cant afford Him on my own! I dont even remember where she lives. I could sell him! Id have to work my arse off doing three jobs!

heya what you should do is if you are insured ring up the insurence company than ask them about the real owner?? hope it works let me know??.x.x

Does the vet bill usually come to you or has she changed the name/address on the account?

Have you tried to ring? That would certainly be the first thing I would do.

Ring the vets and query it with them. They will also have her address on file.

Can I just ask why you didn't write her contact details down in your diary or somewhere safe; what would have happened if your computer or phone went up the Swanee, you'd be stumped then - which you are now anyway if she's not answering but with a proper address you could have written and sent it recorded delivery so you knew she had it? Does she live far away, could you call round, she might not expect that?!

If it does seem that she has done a runner, tell the vets that you have been dumped in deep shite by her, which although is not their problem, they should be agreeable to you paying it by instalments if necessary.

everything to dow ith him is under her name i.e insurance and everything else so would not be able to ring insurance up! The vets bill is only 60quid so thats not the problem its everything else that comes along with owning a horse she pays for. The vets is in my name as he is looked after by me and im there contact they have no recor of her name as he was new to them when i got him. He came from about half an hr away. He is registered with Leahurst with her just dont want to trouble them and I dont think would give me that information anyway! I hope im worrying about nothing.

surely vets bills you can only be liable for what you have agreed to the rest is up to them to sue her for if they havent been paid. Your contract with them should only be for what you have requested.

Just bear with me, I'm being thick as usual!

Do you own the horse but she shares him/has him on loan or does she own the horse and you have him on loan/share?
Either way, does she ever use the horse at all or is he in your sole care but she pays some of the bills?
I'm very confused, sorry!

well if she only live half an hour away and you remember the way if all else fails by way of getting in contact with her you can always go round and see her.

You won't be able to get her address etc from the vet or insurance company as the Data Protection Act prevents them releasing this information.
She may have gone away for a couple of days/been ill, or been in hospital? I'd give her the benefit of the doubt for a little while...

but its not so much about the vet bills, is it? You said something about some other money she gives you (is that towards his livery?) hasn't been paid. It sounds as if you are relaint on that money, so I think you HAVE to try and track her down.

I find it really odd that you loan a horse from someone whose address you don't know...but still. Do you know anyone else who does know her and might know her address? Is she in the phone book? Have you tried ringing her mobile instead of just texting it? if you know the previous owners of the horse, you could see if they know how to contact her.

if the owner pays for everything, does she have a contract with the livery yard? Maybe your yard owner will know how to contact her. She really ought to know how to contact the owner anyway, in case something happened to Sid and you were unreachable !

I am the sole carer for sid. She sends me an amount each month by direct debit straight in to my bank. I however pay for sid first then get the money back two weeks later. I have no contract with her as she has always been contactable and we have a good relationship! I do not know where she lives as she has always come down to see Sid obviously! Yes its daft but I have never thought that this could happen. Im just worried thats all. I said Sid came from half an hour away he wasnt kept at her home! Sids owner pays for everything minus his shoes! hope this makes more sense!

Sounds like a very good deal that you have to me! I would wait it out a couple of days, she can't be at the end of a line all the time, and maybe as others have said, she is ill/away. Does this mean that you don't have a contract etc?

Well I suppose its better than the other way around....e.g your horse disappears never to be seen again!

I really think this panic has just highlighted how necessary it is to have a contract drawn up no matter what sort of relationship you have with the owner. I am genuinely shocked that the owner didn't put some kind of formal agreement in place before leaving her horse in your care (not because I don't think you are capable, but just because it is common sense)

I really do hope it is a simple case of the owner being unavailable either through illness or being away as others have suggested, and if this is the case I hope you will have the sense to have a contract drawn up to protect yourself from scares like this in the future.

If however the owner has gone AWOL you are going to need to think about what you are going to do next. Does the YO know of the arrangement you have with Sids owner or is it a case of everything being in your name and then the owner giving you the money back? If it is the latter and it is not possible for you to afford Sids full costs perhaps it might be worth getting a sharer in to help cover costs, even if it is in the short-term until you have worked out what to do next.

I really hope you manage to get things sorted, I am sure people will understand if you explain the situation, which perhaps will also buy you some time
