Our NF gelding has been leaving 'burnt' patches in the field with his wee. I've also noticed that he has been dropping his willy a LOT in the last couple of weeks, and 'yawning' more than usual. Today after his hack he weed a few times, again more than usual, once in the tack room  which he would never normally do. He looked a bit uncomfortable. He rode out as cheerfully as normal though and he looks absolutely fine otherwise, not tucked up or miserable at all. Am I being an overprotective mother? ;)

No. I'd call the vet.

Even the most experienced owners aren't psychic and need a vet :D

He may have a UTI.

Got caught short while untacking himself did he? :D

I'm not going to answer because in honesty I have no idea whether what you have stated could potentially mean a problem.

I'm just too busy smiling at the willy-out yawning part!

You could always phone up to speak to a vet and see if they think they need to come out. They normally do want to visit but on odd occasions they've been happy to just advise and I've saved myself a call out charge.

yeh I'd call the vet, I've never seen a horse leaving burnt marks in the field before, so best of be on the safe side!

In very dry weather horses wee can burn the grass off, especially if the grass is short. Longer grass holds the dew and washes some of the wee away, my mare is on very short grass as she gets too fat very quickly and where she has made a toilet area the grass has gone yellow and died. In the winter when she is on longer grass and we have more rain there are no burnt off toilet areas as it gets washed away.

Thank you. I've called the vet and she is coming out tomorrow. She's asked me to get a wee sample if possible...! Burnt patches happened when it was really sunny with no rain so could be as you say snoopster.
