Should I call the vet ???

Hi I am after a bit of advice please

I have a 4 year old shetland who came in last week a bit stiff in 1 back leg , by the end of the day she was dragging leg behind her unable to put underneath her - She seemed to be stiff from the hindquarters so I massaged her bum applied some radiol & after an hour or so she seemed fine - put her back in the field & she has been fine until yesterday about 7 days later - she was tied up off the grass for a while only a couple of hours & then the same leg was locked up again - did the same thing again & about half an hour later she was a lot better - decided to keep her away from the others last night & also away from all the grass!! so sectioned an area off for her - went to check on her this morning & when she 1st moved your could hear her back end click when she moved the 1 leg - she was moving fine after - Obviously I dont want her in any pain - I think that maybe she has kicked out with her back legs & maybe jarred something - should I wait & see how she gets on or should I call the vet out now- Any advice is greatly appreciated . Thankyou
 
Sounds like a locking stifle.
Maybe call the vets to discuss it, they may want more if a history before visiting, maybe wait a few more days see how many times it happens and when it happens.
 
Locking stifle, call the vet. It is very common in young horses due to lack of muscle behind. Is yours a miniature shetland by any chance? They do seem quite prone and at the age of four I would have thought it should be resolved by now. Most horses grow out of it as they mature but some need an operation to cut the offending tendon.

she has only just turned 4 & she is moving around fine @ the moment - however I have called the vet & explained the situation - they have asked me to wait a few more days & keep assessing how she is if she locks up again I have been told to give them a call & they will come out xx
