I posted a few weeks ago asking if there were any riding schools where I live - Managed to find one, had a lesson but wasn't too impressed with standards! I was put on a horse who's saddle didn't fit and continually slipped to the side (the instructed even pointed out as I mounted that the saddle didn't fit and to just push more weight through my left foot!!!! Throughout the lesson she stood in the corner chatting to mates and on her phone, with the only 'instruction' informing me which pacec to use etc - no teaching or advise on how to improve my technique. Was then directed to do some jumping ( to be told after that this horse was new to jumping and not very goood!!!!!)
Anyway, this has left me wandering what to do next - I do go to a fantastic riding schools when I'm visiting family up north (maybe every other month) but want to continue to develop my skills when at home. I would like to also learn more about the care side of horses as one day I would like to own or long term loan. There seems to be livery yards local where you can have lessons on your own horse, but I'm concerned if I loan a horse I just don't know enough.
Is it possible to loan / share a horse, but to have the owner 'teaching' you the general care? (more than just a few times whilst they assess your abilities) I would be willing to pay towards keep!
I'm not sure if this is a really silly post but just don't know how I can get into horse riding and having my own horse if theres no where to learn the ropes!
Also, thank you to the people who pm me off the last post offering share - I don't think I know enough at this point to be left to provide the care on my own at this stage!
