Should I look for a sharer? Would anyone want to share him?

I might just be having a bad few weeks, but I really feel like I'm struggling at the moment. I have my horse on DIY livery and work full time with a long commute. I appreciate this is exactly the same position as many of you, but getting up at 4:30am every morning, trying to do a full day at work then getting to the stables for 6pm is really taking it's toll and I'm losing my enthusiam towards riding because I'm so tired.

I have thought about advertising for a sharer, but my boy can be a handful. He's a really loving horse, but he will sometimes try it on with things like being led in from the field. If he's not last then he's a dope on a rope, but if he's one of the last out he can sometimes rear up (though he never does this with me anymore). He's lovely to hack out on his own, but if out in a group can get a bit stroppy if at the back, so I tend to hack on my own or with one other.

His schooling is really coming on, but he definitely needs to be schooled by someone experienced with a gentle approach. Having said that, he's been placed in every dressage comp I've ever taken him to.

What do you think? Do I advertise for a sharer or carry on and hope for the best?

Sorry for the rather self pitying post... just wondered what others would do in this position.
 
It sounds as though you want help more than a sharer. Is there any chance of getting some services done for you (one end of the day and a muck out, say) to lighten the load and give you more time to ride? And can you turn out soon for summer which would lessen the cost and workload?

Alternatively could you move to a part livery yard to get a bit more help?

I feel for you - I know just what this is like. x

Thanks, I would if I could but I just can't afford to pay someone to help. I was thinking if I advertised for a sharer with no financial contributions but to help out on the days they ride? Even just a couple mornings off a week would be a huge help.

I'm moving yards shortly which doesn't offer 24/7 turnout, not ideal on the workload front but this was the only negative to many, many positives.

PErhaps new yard may bring new prospects.. may be a livery I can team up with and help each other out.
 
I'm sure you could find an experienced sharer for him but you may have to kiss a few toads to get the right one :o
In the meantime I'd second the part livery option.
