Hi
On wednesday I had to have my Horse Magic PTS due to severe colic.
They were together for 4years, and never seperated for days at a time.
The thing is it means my other horse is now left in a field by himself.
He looks lost in it and there are no other horses even near to keep him company.
He saw everything happen so he knows that shes gone, he does seem sad.
Now I know I'm in pieces so whats it like for him?
I was thinking about moving him to a yard, we've been away from that environment for about 6months.
My question is how much of a change would it be for him?
And has anyone else had to go through this?
Thanks

I would move him, unless you have someone that could move to you/you could advertise for a companion. Horses are herd animals and they simply don't do well on their own, a bit like us humans!

He'll get over the loss, and nothing will help him quicker than having new buddies to graze with etc. As long as he has food, shelter, water, company, he'll adapt. Moving may even be the thing that helps him to stop looking depressed.

Really sympathise with your loss. The only saving grace is that is sounds like it was quick so there hopefully wasn't long and drawn out suffering.

Good luck if you do move :-)

Hugely sorry for your loss. Your friend will be fine, move him to where he can have pals to make new friends with.

And look after yourself, try not to worry he'll be fine x

He will recover, but may take some time. I would move him to a yard where he can have some 'friends',or if you can't bear the thought of moving back to a yard, why not get a little companion, shetland or oldie on loan, something like that.

(((((hugs)))))

Sorry for your loss :(

If he's been used to company I think he'd be better off at a yard with other horses, or could you take in a companion horse for him?

Yeah if you feel like you have a space in your heart there are plenty of needy horses out there who would like to be a new friend to your current horse, and you.

Sorry for your loss - I would do what the others have said - either move to a yard with other horses, or get a companion for him. There are LOADS of companion horses out there. Good luck with whatever you decide x

Could you ask about/advertise for someone else to bring their horse to keep with yours if you didn't want the expense of finding a companion? Only cos I moved my horse to my friend's place after one of hers died. It has worked out well, as we can help each other with jobs.

So in the end I moved him onto a yard where there is a school.
He seemed so sad being on his own and the big factor was I was up the field one night and freaked out because I saw Magic walk across the field :( when i obviously couldnt have.
I couldnt face having another one, not yet anyway.

Hopefully he will get through this as even the people on the yard have noticed hes looking for her.

Now its a project of getting his schooling sorted and him loading.

Thankyou for all your replies.

I do miss her terribly
RIP Magic
