Should I move Yards

with money being a bit tight recently I have been considering moving to a cheaper yard. I have subsequently found a 4acre field, stable and tack room for £10per week.

Con's being, will be on my own
Will have to arrange Muck heap disposal (dont have a clue about this)
will hve no school.

so do you think this is a good idea or bad idea to move.

If i do move I would consider getting Mare companion.
 
If you like to schooling or compete it will be hard without a school.
Is there good access to safe hacking? Also don't forget if you have to get a companion you're costs will go up. Will you really be financially better off?
 
sounds a tricky one but my yo has to have muck heap removed every 6 weeks costs £40 is more than 2 horses tho, and by the time u have vacc,wormed,fed,trimmed companion, mayb your savings would b eaten into!!
 
Surely if you move to this field and therefore have to get a companion that will cost you extra? Also muck heap disposal can cost.

Obviously I don't know the whole situation but I would suggest staying where you are and seeing if you can help out at all to lessen the cost?
 
dont know if it would be cheaper,i am in the process of selling my house with land and stables to put my horses into livery to save money,keeping them on your own can be lonely when you have no one to ride with,and if you have to get a companion then thats more money to look after 2 horses, plus will you have to get all your own hay, straw,look after the fields,rolling harrowing, resting ect and getting muck removed can be hard, last year it cost us £30 per load so worth thinking about.
 
i agree with whats been said so far, plus 2 horses together sometimes doesnt work, my geldings became so close that it got to the stage of people getting thrown off if we tried to ride one without taking the other along too, riding and leading is fine but not everytime to go out!
 
i've moved my horse back in to livery after being by myself it so much nicer also it's cheap as i'm not paying out for 2 anymore.
 
hmm.. i really cant decide wht to do.. part of me says if its not broken dont fix it.. if you know what i mean..

Ahh.. maybe i should stay where i am, afterall grass is not always greener...
 
Do you have a friend that might be interested in joining you at the new place? Or could you put an ad up for another livery? It sounds like a bargain for what you're getting and if you could get some company you might be really happy there.
 
i'm on my own and love it cant be doing with yard politics and you always end up with a cow stabling her horse next to you. my muck heap is tiny after 6 years and local farmer takes it way for £10 when needed ( i get all my haylage from him and he does our hedges ,harrows and rolls the field for us ) i dont have a school, i fence off a corner of the field to jump in and you can do alot of schooling while hacking. can be lonely but you cant have everything
 
I moved out of livery last year to a field and stables on my own, and I honestly wish I had done it years ago. I love it and would not want to move back into a livery yard with all the politics etc. I don't have a school but do have an area fenced off for schooling, I can put jumps up where ever I want in the field, my horses are happy and healthy, I have had no injuries - touch wood - I don't feel guilty if I am held up at work and my two have to stay out longer than normal because they are not getting stressed witnessing their field buddies being taken in. Our local farmer delivers everything we need - hay, straw, shavings, sacks of carrots and does our hedges and will take our muck heap away for a reasobale cost. There are other 'solo' horse owners in the area so there is always someone to ride out with if I want anyone. I've not looked back. It is the best move I have ever made and I have never been happier - and my bank balance is slowly recovering from the costs of livery too.
