My horse has had a funny lump/bump on his leg for months now. It has never been painful, he has never been lame and its never been hot. therefore I thought he had prob struck into his leg and left some residule scar tissue and I have never really been worried about it.
When I was away last week he had the week off and I am not 100% sure he always had his magnetic boots on( these seem to make it go completley).
It was bigger than usual on Saturday when I came back from my holidays so I decided to call the vet, in the meantime putting the boots on and it almost went again.
Vet looked at it today, he said that it was a swelling on the tendon but it might be nothing and it could be , like I said, a knock that will leave a small bump forever but we should scan it to be on the safe side. He is coming on Thurs.
He said I could still turn him out as he has been out for all this time galloping about and has come to no harm on the hard ground! However, when I asked if I should ride him he said best not to but I have been riding him with the bump for months? Also, he would prob harm himself more in the field than with me riding him.
He is such a nit if he has too much time off, do you think it would be ok to ride him out in walk on the roads until Thursday so he doesn't turn into the loon he is without work??

I know my thoughts but just wanted other opinions.

If he hasn't come to any harm so far with riding, then a bit more shouldn't do any more damage - especially if you stick to walking on a good/firm surface. I would carry on if I were you. Good luck.

the vet is just covering his back...telling you not to ride as he dosent know what it is he can't tell you if its a problem or not.

I'd wait for a diagnosis to be on the safe side..

I probably wouldn't go against the vets advice - for the sake of a few days it doesn't seem worth the risk to me. But then I'm always really careful with soundness and wrap my horses in cotton wool (or would if i could

If riding and therefore controlled exercise stops him racing around like a maniac, then I would ride him, but avoid any flat work, as you dont want to stress it doing circles etc. Hacking on good straight surfaces is better.

When i went to view my new share horse the other day, the owner showed me a lump/bump on his leg and said that it is just from where he has caught it with his other hoof and that it doesnt cause him any trouble and he is fine to ride as normal with it. so it could just be the same with yours.
