Hi all,
for the last few weeks I have seen ponies (and horses) from the local riding school reguarly cantering down my road, the problem is its not a steady canter they seem to race down the road and one of the ponies being used (I know for a fact) is only 3/4 years old.
I have spoken to the yard owner and they are dissmising everything I say so ..........
 
Afraid I would say drop it.

Although clearly cantering horses up and down roads is not fair on these ponies/horses I wouldn't agree that it amounts to cruelty.

Fair play to you for approaching the YO but I think you would be better off leaving them to it.

Just my opinion.
 
Id keep out of it. Youve done what you could and its now up to the RS to decide. It will probably take an accident to make them change their behaviour

. Cant be much of a riding school if thats what they teach. I hope no one breaks their neck , ponies included. Mairi.
 
I dont think id be happy to leave it. Its not just bad for the ponies but its a serious safety issue for traffic. If they had to stop quick the horses would be likely to loose their footing and go under a car of something much bigger.

If this were me id try to get some video evidence of it and take that to the owner of the way to prove you are not exaggerating. I dont know how old you are but if your not an adult then ask and adult to go with you ( im not being rude i just dont know if you are a teen of an adult ).

If they still refuse to do anything about it it approach the local council.

I find it beyoned belief that anyone would consider doing anything to stupid!!!!.

How would they stop if something came out infrout of them- roads are slippery at the best of times it could worse still be a chil that runs out infrount of them.

I hope you can help sort it, i know i would feel unhappy about it.

Keep out of it. No reputable organisation is going to be bothered with such a dare I say trivial thing, sorry but they just won't - they are more interested in saving horses from horrific living conditions.
 
Goodness, by your reasoning, bicycles, motorbikes, joggers and other cars shouldn't be on the roads either

This is simply my view on it, im not going to argue with anyone. Im aware that many incidents of all kinds happen on the roads but i try to do my bit to minimise them.

Peli and i are very well thanks!. I have a set of wheels now and we are out partying most weekends. How's the beautiful roxy?.

I would get some video camera evidence of this occuring and make a note of the time and date.

I would say that this is dangerous practice and someone or a horse is likely to get injured.

The local authority licenses every riding school and I would take the matter to them initially so that they can visit the riding school and raise their concerns.
 
It's not a case for the welfare charities, but I do wonder whether this riding school is actually a licensed establishment? You might want to check with the local council to see whether this is the case as all riding schools must have a license and be inspected by the local council.
 
Is the riding school approved?If so report them to the BHS/ABRS. If not then they will HAVE to have a council licence to be a riding school. The licence states that the horses/ponies used in a riding school must be of at least 4 years of age there for if it is a 3 year old they are in breach of the licence.
If this is the case then report them to your local authority.
