I have a super 5yr old irish sports horse, who is everything i ever wanted in a horse however, he is still very green and needs lots of work put into him to bring him on in the school.
I am struggling to fit it all in at the moment and i am just not getting the time to ride as much as i should do.

To make matters worse he is really very talented and would easily eventually go Novice BE so...what do i do...sell or keep him.
Think i know the answer its just ive been waiting for a horse like him all my life but with work and family it is proving very difficult!!

Any thoughts?

keep him. If you sold him would you get another horse? If the answer is yes then keep him, if he ticks all the boxes for what you want from a horse. he's not bothered whether he's doing Novice BE or not and at 5 there's plenty of time in the future for doing events. just my opinion

Yes, DON'T SELL!!!!!!

We sent our youngster to the Wiegersma's because I just didn't have the time to put to him and it wasn't fair on him. It was the making of him and we are really excited about him now.

If he is as good as you say, you must try and find a way of keeping him, otherwise I think you will regret it in the long run.

If you have the money, send him to a professional for a short while. It has definately worked for us.

If i sold him i would not be getting another for a long while. My job just doesnt allow for time to bring him on and he is the type of horse that if he isnt ridden regularly he goes back a few steps! I want his schooling to progress but would never be able to afford to send him away.

I also am not sure if i can justify the cost and time involved in keeping him when i really only get to ride maybe as little as once a week!

Am just very confused as i think i may have lost interest in riding every day and bringing on a competition horse. I just feel he deserves more than sitting in a field as he loves working.

It's a real shame, but by the sounds of it I think you have already made up your mind. If your heart isn't in it anymore then maybe it is best for him to move on. Very sad for you

I think my heart would be in it a little more if i had more time! I am just running myself ragged at the moment trying to fit everything in and i am not sure i can keep it up long term!

I am sure this is a blip and i will feel more positive about it all soon!

Can you find an experienced sharer who could help you out with him? Maybe someone with the time and experience, but who doesn't have the money to have their own horse at the mo - then they could ride him and help with his schooling?
