Hi,
Someone said I should show my Registered Irish Draught mare but i'm not very experienced and don't know if she should be in a hunter class or cob class. She was hogged when I got her so need to either try and grow it out or re-hog her. Help please - I've attached a picture of her (not the best picture but hopefully gives you an idea).

Thank you in advance

The ID society have shows around the country that are fun, you could do ridden and in hand classes with her. The picture doesn't show her confo so do get some advice before you spent a small fortune registering her to show at county level.

She has been graded with the ID Society (grade 1) and they do have an ID class at Royal Cornwall. She would be shown plaited as an ID though wouldn't she which would mean fingers crossed her mane grows and I can tame it.

Sorry just looked at the guidelines on the ID society page and they can be shown hogged!

Good luck with her. Nothing better than a nice ID.

Is she definitely 16hands though? Mine measures at 14.1hh with a decent stick on flat ground in the yard. If I took her to a measuring pad with trimmed feet etc I have no doubt she would measure in as 138, or 13.2hh in old money.
Surely not. Mine measures 142.7cms (just under 14 hands which is now scaled to 143cms max) on the level yard with a stick and in shoes, on the JMB she is 141.5cms.
I doubt yours would shrink that much!

OP, good luck, and as AA says, maybe get an appraisal of her before shelling out loads to register with show society :)

Depends on your stick, the ground and how relaxed the horse can be made.
Lenny my small hunter looks 16.2hh and fully fit, excited, with long feet and a hairy wither would measure About 16hh at home.
But taken to a measuing pad having had his feet trimmed the day before, wither clipped and given enough time to settle he easily measured 157cms
