i've had a really stressful last few weeks at my yard where i work full time, have my horse on livery and am training for my nvq.

basically i've fallen out with one of the other girls who spread a bunch of lies about me hitting one of the horses round the head, which had a knock-on effect on everyone else, we are short staffed and working our butts off to try and keep the horses happy, and i'm being accused of being lazy despite mucking out 10 stables twice a day and riding 5 horses a day.

also my nvq assesor came out this week to take a look at my riding in order to set the date for my exam and she basically said i'm going to really struggle to pass the level 2 due to my poor position. now i break and school horses as part of my job, can sit on a bucking bronco and handle my highly strung TB mare, but due to an old back and shoulder injury caused by a horse falling on me when I was 14, i have a bit of a hunchback and can't sit up straight and keep my shoulders back like i should.

i've spent the last few days keeping my head down and barely talking to any one, i don't spend any time on my own horse who is stabled 24/7, she hasn't even been out of her stable in 3 days except to be mucked out.

now i really wanted to stick it out for long enough to get my nvq but since i'll probably never pass it, its got me thinking whats the point? i don't know if i want to work with horses forever anyway.

so now I have to decide either stick it despite me and my horse being unhappy, or try to co-ordinate finding myself a job, finding livery for my horse and arranging transport, all when i have no money due to being an apprentice on £80 a week.

sorry for the long rambling post, i really need some help, i am so miserable there, but financially i don't know how i will cope if i leave.

If you're not happy, either look for anther placement or a different job all together.

Have you discussed your concerns with your assessor?

Could you put your mare on grass livery (even just for the summer)?

Do you have a Tutor for your NVQ work? If so go chat with them.

Your college and workplace should have some sort of bullying policy in place.... if they don't they should.

*HUGS*

if you are anygood you wont need your nvq to work with horses anyway.

can you get a doctors note to explain position? it really is quite stupid if they cann't look past how "pretty" you sit on a horse to see how well you are riding,

some seriously good riders have seriously bad positions but go the the olympics anyway- Rob Hoekstra once told me
"forget everything you learnt under the bhs, now you start learning to ride with me" and you know what this impossible horse which i was ready to chuck it in, went like a dream.

he "undid" all my current understanding, made me question what i was being taught, so much so i threw in my bhs exmas and when my intructor told me i was being stupid, i went out on started competing, winnig lots and went intenational thanks to Rob - funnily enough the instructor has got an artcle of me on her wall of "past students" doesnt mention I only did my stage one with her tho!!

dont be miserable, if your good dont let them tell you otherwise.

I was in a similar problem when I was 18. I decided to stay at the yard and the instructor (who was the main 'bully') totally ruined my confidence and my enjoyment of horses.

I'm sure the nvq, like the BHS have to make reasonable adjustments for disability, which is what the consequence of your injuries are, in this circumstance. It would be worth contacting the examining body and asking what allowances they have in place for this.

is it worth making yourself and your horse miserable over ???
imo experience far outweighs qualifications so if i was you id be looking for something else and if you did find another horsey job im sure you could continue with your nvq in your new place (its allowed in my job if you change employers)as for ppl on the yard being bitchy ,,,,, well thats just what happens on yards its a well known fact

I would look into the doctors note. My friend had a funny knee and so one of his feet stuck out an dhe couldn't turn it in at all. He had a doctors note and did his BHS exams with it. If your exam is not too far away then you should try and get it. Afterall you've been earning nothing because of it! You could look at changing yards though.
