I am off hunting for first time on saturday.

We had a "practise" last week, well took some doggies out for a run in a field, and horse thought he was going hunting! Got one or two little mini rears out of him, which was interestesting as normally that would be way to much like effort for him.

Anyway, he is normally ridden in a plain eggbut single jointed snaffle. I have a running martingale for him. Should it put it on, or leave it off - he is not normally in it.

I'd put the martingale on, if he doesn't throw his head up it won't come into play, if he does perform you've got it there. You've also got use of the neckstrap if needed to grab hold of. Enjoy yourself & be safe
