A few weeks ago my 101/2 month old colt was examined by our vet with a view to castrating him standing using a local anaesthetic. She decided that the inguinal rings were not suffciently closed and he would need to be stitched under a full anaesthaetic.
I have since managed to get a companion for him so that he can be separated from his dam so the issue is less urgent.
Do you think he will be better to be left until the autumn? Will the inguinal rings have closed by then do you think? I'd rather have a local without stitches as less risky.

I wouldn't want the expense let alone the worry of a full anaesetic .
If you can keep him with a companion I would wait (I can't work out how old he is from your post)
The best time to do him is early spring or autumn so if the vet feels he will need the full anaesetic and stiches now I would wait until the autumn .
My colt was gelded at 18 months standing using a local and it was fine. He was no problem kept as a colt as he was well handled and knew his manners.
I would definitely wait.If the inguinal rings still aren't closed then you are no worse off than now and fingers crossed they will have closed.
