Should I worry about a runny nose?

Ok another question from me the new horsey mummy! George has got a runny nose, both nostrils, both today and yesterday, it is clear to milky coloured and not constant. He seemed a little lethargic today but is not off his feed/water. Don't have thermometer to check temp but his breathing & pulse rate are normal. Just walked him today in case he was feeling 'off colour', just wondered if I should be fretting?

Is he getting hay? If so try soaking it. Or his stable could be dusty. That can cause a runny nose in some horses. Its difficult to say without seeing it!

(Not that I want to see snot on my computer screen! LOL)

I would ask someone experienced on your yard to have a look for you. They wont mind. As an "experienced" horse owner I would rather a novice asked than thought they knew everything (people like that are dangerous) and you will gain a lot more respect by asking if you choose the right person.

He's had the first 2 of his course of flu jabs, last 1 last week and is due another in 6mths time. I will ask someone to look when I go up this morning. It was just that I got home and started worrying!

Generally clear/white discharge is nothing much to worry about. Sounds like dust; either from hay or stable environment. Just keep an eye on it and if it turns green or gunky then you may want to ask your vet for some antibiotics to clear it up.

Would say its likely that hes lathargic because of the heat an sun...they're not used to it LOL! Ours were all complete donkeys today....until we hit the canter track

Nope, I wouldn't be worried at all! The sun has come out now (or it has where we are), which would more than likely account for him feeling lethargic, he's probably just a bit sleepy. Runny nose could just be a bit of dust or something like that. You will soon know if there's something really wrong with him.

I must admit I rarely worry about my boy, I've had him long enough now to know when something is really up and when he's having me on.

It might be the flu jab making him feel a bit under the weather then....my boy has to have a week off every year when he has his boosters as he just gets really sniffly and fed up.
