Walk the horse when colicing? Got a colicy horse and got to wait a bit for the vet to come out but he had pooed so not here wether walking is a bad idea or not?

Saw a massive colic recently, vet came out, gave anti spasmodics etc, then got owners to take horse to school and trot it on lunge to try and get things going.

I would normally always walk the horse.

When my horse got colic I walked her for quite a while, but my vet said to me that walking is good for the horse and if you see an improvement keep it up, if the horse gets worse however (as my mare, she began to start collapsing to the floor and not getting up ). It's best not to exhaust them by walking or trotting.

I did walk the horse and vet said I did the right thing, after a very long 24 hours he has now done a poo so I can now come off the yard, half an hours sleep then go right back out again, I love horses I love horses I love horses!!!

I was told yes unless there is a reason not too, ie on box rest for chronic lameness or like my old mare, very elderly stiff and unfit so walking may tire her too much to fight the colic.
