Hi guys,

I am here for advise please and have a bit of an embrassing whimpy question.

My Horse is 16.2 tbxirish I have had him for one year this august. He is fine most of the time he is ridden 4 times a week for about 1/2 to 45 min at a time with the ocassional longer hack but nothing strenuos.

2 weeks ago I went to get him from the field and we were almost to the gate when the whole herd decided to gallop up towards us he reared and pulled the rope from my hands and went. (I know I did wrong but I didnt want to be injured for my holiday and so left him (obviously I went and took of his head collar and rope) he seemed to be hanging around with a mare (which I thought was in season)

My Yo moved him to another field whilst I was away to give th current field grass a break she also moved the mare with him.
I got him out on friday and today and he was crazy first refused to move I had to go back with a crop and I hate smacking I gave a little tap on in shoulder but in the end had to kinda lunge him to get him out (madness I know) and all down the lane he was shouting and whining and refusing to walk/trotting instead.

I think I must be going through a nervous point with my horses but being only 5ft 2" I am quite nervy of him kicking out rearing bolting etc so I have not yet ridden him. I really am not enjoying him at the moment and was wondering if anyone could give advise.

At the moment I can see only two options 1. Have him taken back to his old field I am sure he will act the same but at least I will have a menage there so if he acts up I have four fences (though he can jump them)

or 2. persuvere and hope he comes right (I am leaning to option 1.

Help!!!!

Sounds like he's got really attached to the mare. Any way he can go in a different paddock to her? If not I would just keep going, he should get used to being separated from her.

I had/have the same problem with my mare, although this is because I think she is in season and been on box rest! It could just be that the mare you gelding is with is on season and he is becoming like it two. What I had to do is, just seperate her from all the other horses, because it even affected her riding. What I would do with your horse is, leave it for a couple of days just to see wether he behaves, maybe bring him in in a bridle and give him a smack soo he listens to you, dont hard but hard enough so he listens! Instead maybe when he gets to the place you want him to go to, give him a treat, a snack this will connect the two things in a good way. If not, just put him on hes own untill he has calmed!!
