Hello all

Trying to get kitted up to take my boy out this year to a couple of little shows, only have my hat and jodhs so far!

Need long boots & black show jacket, love Ariats but I'm on a budget as I'm funding 2 horses at livery :(

Would like your recommendations...I'm tall 5'9 and suit the longer jackets as I'm leggy.

Let me know what you like/dont like if poss :)

Dependning on what classes you are going to do tweed always looks more profesional the black jackets, and white jodphurs belong in dressage and showjumping arenas so stick with canary yellow, beige, cream or buff. Mountain Horse Venice boots look smart and are not too expensive either. A plain stock or tie with a small spot look traditional and should be worn with a stock or tie pin. If a coloured browband is being used you could even find a matching buttonhole.

Hope this helps!

Thank you - planning to a couple of small shows for his education, will most likely be in the European breeds as nothing much fits! (Friesian). Have plenty of little shows nearby to start with.

Planning to do dressage with him but would like to get out this summer so he is used to the show enviroment and travelling.

Have looked at a few tweed jackets...The Shires Huntingdon looks a good price and wool too. Boots wise, MH are lovely but may end up with something cheaper! New horse has cleaned me out! OH may leave if he sees me buying anything else! will have to hide the stuff down the yard! :D

nice second-hand jackets can be found - if you have a saddlers with a secondhand section have a quick look, also ask around locally and have a nose on e-bay. Tweed is best for showing and probably the most versatile as it can be used for most things For shirt have a look at boy's school shirts - they usually have a well-set collar and are a lot cheaper than horse 'show shirts'. Ties you can usually find nice silk ones in charity shops (- or pinch OH's if he's got a decent one!!)

For In-hand classes swop your jods and long boots for a pair of trousers and short boots you can run in if you can. With a dark-legged horse wear light coloured trousers - tis easier for the judge to see the horse's movement, and with a spectacular moving horse like a Fresian you want to really show off that movement.

fleabay is great.

I have a Shires jacket and can confirm that they are nice and IMHO pretty stonking value for money :)
