Helloooo, been told that if I wanted to show my youngster I could give the Show Cob classes a go... I'm verrryyyy M+M based and know next to nothing about Show Cobs except about bone and needing to be hogged, just wondering what everyone thinks and if anyone has any advice about show cobs? Also, does anyone know of a show cob forum online? Had a look but can't find one :(
Anyway, this is Tegen, my 4yo. She is out of a CobxShire (I think!) mare and Graysons Lucky Robbie, a Fell stallion from Tredellans Fell pony stud. She currently stands at 15.1hh and has 9 inches of bone :) I know she needs to gain muscle, but just wonder if anyone thought we would have a shot? I'll try and get another photo of her standing up properly next time I go to the yard:)
Thanks! :)
Lisa and Teg xxx

I have absolotely no idea if she'd do well or not, but I also have a coloured cob that my daughter would like to show but I can't get my head around hogging him :(
He's fully clipped, mane pulled and very tidy but I just can't bare to let his mane go all together.
Your mare looks very nice, no idea on quality for showing :(

Its not the best photo but she certainly looks as if she is the right type, how does she move, a good cob should not have too much knee action and give a smooth ride. She would look very smart hogged and trimmed.

@Welshie Squisher: I'm the same, if thats what i decided to do I don't know if I could bring myself to hog her, its taken so long for her mane to grow to the length it has.. it's currently untouched except from pig oil and a brush every now and then!
@be positive: thank-you :) i'll try and get another photo this weekend, i'll get one of me on her as well. We're still schooling as only recently broken in but going well so far :)

it would certainly be worth entering her in lightweight cob classes.

Bear in mind that the maximum height for lightweights (and heavyweights for that matter) is 15.1 (155cm).

At 9" of bone and she looks a fairly light type for a cob, i suspect she would not do very well in heavyweight classes although she would just about be ok in terms of bone measurement.

If she was noticeably over 155cm then you would have to show as a maxi cob, and again i think she would be too light in type to do well.

However, if you aren't fussed about showing her as a cob and just want to go out for fun and enter some classes then it might be worth looking at riding club horse type classes instead.

Same creature in my sig.

I personally think you'd be better off in M&M classes as your horse looks very fell type, very gorgeous!

Kola, no, she's overheight for cob classes. You can go in maxi cob classes.

cinnamontoast: thank-you, she's by a beautiful champion Fell stallion called Graysons Lucky Robbie who is an absolute gentleman. I know she looks very Fell type, but I can't show her in M+M classes because the FPS don't accept part-breds to register, and as her mother is unregistered I can't register her with the Cob society either. To compete in affiliated M+M classes, the pony needs to be registered. I'm very very M+M based, I do a lot of Fell showing both in-hand and ridden aha :) thank-you for the advice anyway! :)
Kola: your cob would most definitely be in the maxi cob class as has been said already, a show cob must be no taller than 15.1hh :)
