Hi,

Thought i would post this in NL as figured there may be more mums on here...

Have a bit of a dilemma. Want to go to local show with niece & her 12hh Welshie in 2 weeks. Would like to enter them both for novice jumping class but states pony & rider not to have won 2 x 1sts in last year, however, niece has been going to a little (very novicey) jumping night once a week & has won twice - more by luck than ability. Its a summer points thing & really just like a sort of training night...

If she can't do novice jumping at the local show then she has to enter for Open class - something neither her, nor pony are ready for yet (she has Thelwell style riding down to a fine art!). She only came off the leadrein 5 weeks ago!

Do I risk somebody complaining or just forget them jumping at all?????

Any suggestions would be gratefully received..

She "jumps" a 20cms class, then a 40cms class. No idea what height the local show will be, but assume bigger than this...

I would ring the organiser/secretary and ask. We had a similar problem, daughter and pony, first outing for both, won a very local RS 1ft 6 class, half of the entrants were on lead rein, most of the rest didn't canter which meant she won. This seemed to exclude her from a lot of other 'novice' or 'beginners' jumping locally, often these classes are 2ft or 2ft 3 'rider not to have been placed' or 'rider and pony not to have won a competition', and daughter really isn't very confident to do 2ft 3, yet needs the practise, so my policy now is to ask, and it seems to mean 'not to have won....at this height'.
