So, the OH has now qualified for the working hunter at Blair - yay!

At the show at the weekend the horses were stripped down and grooms had to go in. I was not prepared for this but luckily I had a brush as had to try and do his quarter markers before hand.

So, what do you have in your basket and how much tidying up do you do? We have a county show and a couple of others before Blair :)

TIA
Jenna

Normally a small version of the grooming kit, damp sponge to wipe off any sweat marks and round the mouth, brush to do the saddle area and tail, cloth to wipe over everywhere that may require it, hoof pick just in case, depending on the horse it may need its white bits touched up or a bit of oil somewhere, plus a cloth to wipe over the bridle, they should be presented in hand looking as if they have just stepped into the ring, not always possible but at the higher levels the attention to detail will count.
A drink for the rider is welcome on a hot day.

Thanks for that.

Will need to make a little list and buy a basket also.

He's bay with one white sock so will need to touch up with white bit. I want to make sure I get everything correct since this will be his first time going down to Blair and I am pretty sure they will strip the horses in the "ridden section" of the working hunter - i think. I am pretty new to this part of showing. A drink is a good idea for the rider. Thanks.

Cotton cloth to wipe sweat marks, soft body brush, baby wipes (they have a multitude of uses including wiping around bits /muzzle, wipe over bridle), Hair brush, drink for rider especially if its big class or hot day, small squirty bottle with water for horse (a squirt in the mouth) I wouldnt put any colour touch up products in other than a slosh of baby oil, do that before you go in and not infront of a judge :)

In my grooming basket I have the following,
Sheet/Rug to throw over saddle to keep saddle dry for the judge or horses back warm if it is cold.
2 Body brushes, one for the coat and one for his white socks as they tend to have chalk on them.
Damp sponge for removing sweat marks.
Baby wipes (multiple uses)
Leather wipes (for touching up bridle if there is time)
Bottle of water (if it is a hot show freeze the bottle of water the night before so you have cold water)
Grooming mit for making the horses coat glossy.
Plaiting bands incase a plait has come astray during the go round (very easy just to shove a band in it in 2 secs if your stitching has come undone)
Hoof oil and brush.
Fly spray.

That is it. Your horse should be groomed to perfection before going in the ring so you shouldnt need much. please dont take everything including the kitchen sink in with you.
I would not take chalk or touch up make up in with me as you will not have time and judges dont like it.

Thanks. Loads of ideas for getting the grooming basket ready. His sock is normally pasted white in the morning so tends to stay quite white if not the dirt brushes off quite quickly.

What stools does everyone use for the rider getting back on? I can give legs up but OH doesnt like me doing it haha!

Baby wipes - for everything!
Tea towels - to wipe round her mouth and bits, one for doing my boots etc
Grooming mit,
Stiff brush
Soft brush
Hair brush - for tail
Baby oil
Hair spray
Hoof Oil/brush

We discovered a quick coating of baby oil over painted hooves just gives them that lift if they gone a little dull on the go round. Found a lovely hoof oil brush that comes with it's own little pot so perfect! Like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/2909...1=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0
