When competing in the above class, would one wear a navy jacket or a tweed? Also, a hard hat or top hat..?

Anything else I should know about showing a hack? We are considering having a go! :)

Hi, your need a navy jacket and navy show hat. I used to wear a beagler hat as I think they look nicer. Good luck, its a tough class. I used to be up against the likes of katie jerram all the time who'd always win.
Your horse will have to be going very well, three nice relaxed and steady paces, working in a good outline and come back to you as soon as you ask. And of course go well for the judge when they ride them.
I used to have a wardrobe of very pretty browbands as well :)

Very much what Snorkey says re the way of going etc. Hacks need to be mega well schooled and give a light elegant ride for the judge.

There are generally low numbers in most hack classes particularly this year - many have only had one two or three even RIHS qualifiers. Likely to be more in HOYS qualifiers but not huge numbers at all.

As I expect you know you do an individual show as well as the judge riding the horse. I like that, get more for your money!

Very few true hacks around, many are overgrown show ponies particularly in the small hack class.

You can get to HOYS as an amateur including home produced - they are lovely classes to do. Just sad mine is retired.
