Hi was hoping to get a bit of advice on making my horse a bit less strong, we tend to do riding horse classes/show horse but compared to all the other well schooled horses ours always looks strong, she rides in a nice outline but really does pull, therefor making her look really powerful instead of a nice pleasent ride, she will ride in either a double or a rugby pelham, have tried both to see. any tips???

Find a good flatwork instructor & work at home on your horse carrying herself from behind & lightening in front & don't hang on to the reins. Sounds like she makes a 'show shape' but hasn't self carriage. What do judges say when they ride her?

Whilst schooling gently give left rein, then right rein then both reins, do this regularly throughout your schooling session in all paces and she should learn over time that there is nothing to pull against or lean upon

I would agree with the last post, half halts are really good too, also lots of changing of rein, keep her mind off pulling and on what she will be asked to do next, doesn't matter the age and 13 is no age at all these days, you can teach an old dog new tricks.
