A family not too from from where the horses are stabled have a disabled son who does dressage to quite a high level (walk/trot tests I think). Anyway - something happened to his dressage horse, and they were looking for a horse that he could hack just to keep his riding up whilst they were searching for a new dressage horse. He came over to see Bob, rode him in the school and got on really well with him, so off Bob went (the first time that he has been "lent" to anyone since we had him). Well, their search for a new dressage horse continues, but in the meantime my sister had a call from them - "is it OK if we register Bob with British Dressage?"

So - Bob is now registered with BD, and did his first competition a few weeks back - he won the Grade 2 21 with 66.6% (all the 6s - how appropriate for Bob!) and was third in the Grade 2 FEI PE. And all in a snaffle (damned if I am riding him in a snaffle!)

Here are some pics of Bob the Dressage Horse in action (new career at the age of 18 years old ...)

This is really for all of those people who were saying a few weeks ago that a show horse is not capable of doing dressage, that show horses are too fat and are ruined before they reach the age of 10, and for those people who love to see porky little horses trying their heart out and having the time of their lives!

have to say I am not too sure. I know he has a problem mounting and dismounting so imagine that it is his legs - similar to Lee Pearson perhaps?

what a fantastic story, and what a great thing for Bob to be doing now! I bet hes having a lovely time in his new found dressage career - he looks great

just out of interest is Bob the first horse in your sig???

Yes - pulling my arms out in a pelham, rather than going lightly and correctly in a snaffle like he is now!!! he is also the one jumping in my avatar (he was unbeaten in working cob unless I fell off) and was placed several times at HOYS, and was second at RIHS last year with me.

SuperBob!!! Just wish I could find another one like him.

He looks fab and like he loves being centre of attention again. What a lovely story!

Looking fantastic and personally I think showing and dressage do mix well, every decent dressage horse I've ever had has also done well showing so doesn't surprise me in the least.

We've never lent him out to anyone before - we've had him for over 10 years (bought him the week before Princess Diana died - funny how you remember dates like that). He has been the most fab horse, even though I have fallen off him a number of times - never because he was naughty but because he enjoyed missing out a stride before a fence. Had a mighty leap in him - jumped for fun when he was younger!

He's looking good and how fantastic for him to have a change of career at 18! you must be so proud of him.

I'm the same as you - can always remember the date Princess Diana died, it was the day I bought Merlin (horse in my avatar).

I remember that weekend well too - I came over here on the Thursday for the weekend to see Jamie after knowing him for a week in Spain, and woke up to hear Diana had died on the Sunday and didn't catch my return flight as I realised you have to grab life with both hands - never did go back

When I was a teenager at the yard I was at, was a completely bonkers palomino pony, who was sold to a boy with 1 arm. From the moment the boy tried him, he was as good as gold, almost as if he knew he had to be.
Bob looks stunning.
