A show Hunter class is one where you all ride around together in walk, fast trot, slow canter and a woopy canter, for the judge to decide if your horse is the prettiest. The judge will then 'hop' on board (often clambering) and ride your horse. Horse will then do one of 5 things - Go like a machine with his ears pricked, look like an our old hag, refuse to move, go lame or spook at the flags he has cantered past 8 times in the last 5 minutes.

The tack will then be taken off. Another judge will look at your horse and decide if he or she is pretty enough. Horse will be picked apart from his ears and tail and you will then notice you forgot to shave 1 whisker off from his nose. Put your tack back on, 'hop' (clamber) back on board and judge will then hand out rosettes. 9/10 your horse will not be the prettiest because there will be a professional in the class who's horse is very pretty, thus meaning you to apply tonnes of make-up to your own horse to make him/her prettier.

Does that help?

good except hunters need to show a proper gallop not a big canter in the go round, often causing a distinct lack of brakes at the end of the gallop

That was the aim of the 'woopy' canter ;) I forgot to mention that brakes were optional and the mandatory buck at the beginning of the season - Can you tell I was bored this morning?!
