This has probably been done a thousand times but I am looking at buying my horse a competition saddle for Xmas. I purchased him a Silhouette Saddle that is almost a replica of the Albion K2 (same tree etc), however, I find it very heavy and some what a bit uncomfortable to jump in - great as an everyday type saddle. His a big 17hh Hanoverian but he fits a medium tree. I was hoping to find something a bit more lightweight and close contact for the bigger jumps. I was considering these makes & models - any suggestions or reviews?

- Jaguar XJS Flat Saddle
- Eric Thomas Fontainebleau Close Contact Saddle
- Pessoa Close Contact Saddle
- Prestige Paris K Saddle
- Prestige Sidney Saddle
- John Whitaker Doppiata Jumping Saddle

Sorry, can't help you with any of those.
I used to have a close contact Wintec, which did the job and was VERY light, if that's any help.

Happy to bump the post for you though...

I can recommend the equipe, I find it very comfortable, supportive without too much bulk and it fitted my 16.3 british warmblood really well (med fit). Its light but not as light as a (synthetic) wintec.
I don't know about the ones you mentioned.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I am not expecting a leather saddle to be very lightweight its just that the weight of my current saddle feels like one of the heavy old-school stubben saddles!

i love my Ideal Impala, light and comfortable. Ideal do a close contact too which i havent tried, but I love Ideal - had loads of them DR and GP too. Also not too scary on the purse strings (new around £1100)

LOVE Equipe saddles. At one point there were 4 horses competing on the yard, and all 4 yad Equipe jump saddles, and all are a very different shape.

Barnsby jump saddles are fab for the horse and rider, and not ££.

Had a John Whitaker Doppiata which was lovely to ride in, but doesn't suit all horses, as they are quite narrow through the gullet. Mine went to a TB who it fits well. Prestige are a similar fit to the JW.

The new stubbens are a lot lighter and less bulky. Better designed for the horse too.

Butets are also lovely saddles, but more ££ :)

tbh imho you have to get a good saddler out with a selection, I don't think there's any substitute for this... what might suit one of us perfectly (because of individual build, length of thigh, style, etc) won't suit someone else at all.
