.. not so good for me!

Fat boy went to sleep and took ages to wake up had 12 faults in the discovery within the first 4 *easy* fences

Then with nasty spur usage he woke up and jumped the rest of it really well.

Also judging by his poo's he had far too much grass lately despite being in at night.

So how to cope with horses that hate the heat? He's on red cell and electrolytes.

Anyone have any tips?

No I think most struggle, I just tend to do a lot of direct transitions, legthening and sortein in a small space of time to get them motivated but not knackered.

My horse falls asleep in the heat - had him on Propell Plus I think its made no difference. Instead my warm up consist of cantering round a couple of times getting him going forwards. Also do standing to canter saying ready steady go just to get him a bit fired up. Annoys the Sjs but works for mine! I guess at Summerhouse that would be hard but you can maybe go in the field?

I had to go round the lorry park to get him to do changes of canter pace to get him going off my leg

At one point there were over 25 horses in the tiny warm up!! Have to say the BN people are the worst offenders as they seem to feel the need to jump their horse 20 times prior to going in!!

I think it just depends on what weather suits certain horses. One of mine loves the heat whereas my other one absolutely hates it. Nothing helps I dont think. I just try to keep warming up to a minimum so as not to knacker him out before I go in. And making sure he drinks lots of water (I mix mine with sugar beet with electrolytes in) and sponging down with cold water a lot in between classes. Not much else you can do unless you just dont jump!

I tend to go into my class as soon as poss, and either tie up in shade or leaveon lorry. Last horse was a big, sweaty lad that just needed one 'pop' before jumping in . Was on Propell plus, and spillers instant release energy nuts -manna from heaven!! He was as fit as I could get him as during the hot summer he was on the walker, or schooled during the cooler end of the day and I think the less fat he carried the better.
