Hi guys

I am getting 500 quid of hubby dearest for my birthday to spend on show jumps... I’d like good quality stuff but doesn’t need to be big (I only jump up to 90 on a Really good day these days... ) we have a large manège (60 x 40) and would like to put a few jumps at one side to be left up.... what can a buy That’s good and where could I buy it? Any recommendations (I’m in Cheshire)

Talk to a local joiner you might be surprised what he could make you. Your local agricultural merchant will have some tantalised round poles, painting them and the wings yourself will save you a lot of money.

I would consider the plastic poles, but only the weighted ones.

At home I am happy with 10ft poles, and only have 4 ft wings. My arena is smaller than yours though and, if I want to jump a course or big jumps then I hire somewhere else, I only jump to 95cm at best at home.

I agree with the plastic poles, but you can save money by only buying enough weighted ones for the top pole.

I have some plastic poles from Jump4Joy that were strong enough to drill a hole in the end and funnel in some pea gravel, that also works well.

Look up CD country services on Facebook. He's based in S.Wales so it might be too far away and courier costs too prohibitive but he makes lovely show jumps as well as portable XC jumps. As far as poles go, a local timber merchant should be able to supply them cheaply. We (riding club) paid £8 a pole for tanilised (not tantalised as autocorrect wants me to put :D) poles that we painted ourselves but you don't even need to paint them really for use at home unless you want to practice over coloured fences. We added them to plastic Jump 4 Joy fences as all top rails have to be wooden now for BRC competitions even though most of ours were weighted. You can buy lighter ones for underneath more cheaply but they're still quite a bit more then wooden ones and we don't like using them for pole work either (obvs as a riding club we have to be more careful, if you were happy to as an individual, that's up to you) so they're less useful.

Theres a chap in Alsager that makes them . Graham Mantle, very good price and great quality. Weve had a few sets off him over the years, and all going well. Jump for joy are great, we have a set of those too, its good to mix and match the sets.
