I was just thinking it would be nice to have a topic where everyone can join in, plus I enjoy learning about other people's horses and letting their passion for horses shine through. I am interested to see your horse/the horse that you ride/the horse that you would like to ride or own, no matter how big or small, no matter what their colour, conformation, ability etc. If you don't own a horse then tell me about the horse that you ride, if you don't ride then tell me about the horse you would like to ride/cuddle/steal and so on. If you have more than one, you can tell me about them all! :D

Apologies if this topic has been done to death. I am just really interested to see the variety of horses and ponies out there. I would like to hear what you do with them, why you love them, whatever you would like to share really. :) There are often many topics for a particular type but plenty get missed out. Even if you post about your horse or pony all the time, please feel free to share!

To get the ball rolling...

This is Belle. She's an 8yr 16.2h ISH (but half KWPN, 3/8 TB, 1/8 ID). She was supposed to be just a fun hacking horse for me and my mum to share... now my mum won't ride her as she turned out to be a bit of a handful! Am really coming to love her though and dealing with her antics has made me a much better rider. I won't give up! :)

This is Inca - a retired TB x Connie, 15.3h, approx 16yrs old. Got her about 6 years ago for hacking, knowing she had a slightly stiff knee, but it wasn't long before the knee became huge and she had to be retired. Now she lives a happy life of munching grass, though she has serious melanomas and will probably have to be PTS soon. At least we have given her a great retirement.

Below is Cosmo, this photo was taken earlier in the year, before he started to look bad. :( He is about 18 and we have owned him since he was a baby. I grew out of him almost before we started and he was naughty so nobody wanted him. He has now dropped a lot of weight/condition and almost definitely has Cushings (but I have upped his food and started him on Vitex).

And this is the beloved by cheeky Cookie. I am lucky enough to have been given him by a fellow HHOer to be a companion for Cosmo. He is madly in love with Belle and delightfully cheeky, always brings a smile to your face.

Now it's your turn please! :)

What a lovely idea :)

This is Lady, 19 y/o Irish 'who-knows-what'!! I ride for the people who own her, and have had her on loan every summer for about 5 years now. She's incredibly strong and was supposedly the hardest horse the breakers had ever broken in, but safe as houses and lives for her hunting!

This is Jacob, 18 y/o ISH. He belongs to my aunty, but was given to me as he kept bucking people off and as I have long legs I find them easier to sit :D (Although having said that he got me off for the first time the other day, bucking once he'd landed over a jump!!) He is the perfect all rounder, and would've made the best eventer in his day.

This is Louie or Mcnab of Camusericht my 14.2hh 8yr old Highland. Have had him since he was just 4 and we do prelim and novice dressage, xc, showjumping, inhand and ridden showing, ODE's bit of everything really.

That would take too long:) Briefly:

Seven of my own, Paints (chestnut and palomino colt in signature) QH's ( x 2 palominos in signature) a Morgan, an Arabian and a mini. The mini is a pet and acts as Uncle to weanlings, the Morgan (bay in signature) is my daughter's Hunter Jumper, the Arabian is a retired broodmare/my riding horse.

I have a few Boarders and a floating population of what we call "Flippers", horses, mostly trained, all registered, that I buy in from the stockyards, they may stay a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or months, depending on how much work/care they need, some don't even get back home if I have clients for them. So yes, I am that most awful of people, twice over in fact, not only do I deal, I breed as well

Tont, a stocky 13hh cob, spotted, skwebald and roan :) No idea what breed, but he means everything to me :D

He has a very troubled past. He's a bit of a late starter, I recently broke him to ride myself aged 14 :) Just hack him around the lanes, bit of cantering and galloping (although he has breathing difficulties so not much), hopefully going to start jumping him soon. But he's just a stroppy little tub who I wouldn't change for the world :)

My monsters first is ella my 2 year old who i love to bits after having her since may this year. My first youngster was dreading having a 2 year old in a way wanted a 3 year old. However she is so good, well behaved, kind and cute. Been placed in top 3 at 8 shows out of 10 we have done this year so not bad. Only issue is shes so good i cant wind her up and get her going in the show ring and all the judges say she is too quite.

Next is fiona the accident prone highland, her and ella do have some of the same bloodlines. Shes used for hacking, local shows and dressage when shes sound and not hurting herself or getting herself into trouble...

And last of all the field companion princess a shetland x from horseworld

Olly, my gypsy cob. Bought 3 1/2 years ago from a dealer when I actually went to look at another horse. Saw him tied to the fence and the rest was history!
Love him to bits, he is my whole world (sorry Little Miss!). Such a genuine boy and will do anything for you but gets worried if he doesn't understand what you want him to do - I think he was beaten :( He loves hunting!

Sandy, also known as Little Miss/Youngster as I actually hate the name Sandy!
Bought last summer but actually took her on in January as a bit of a project, however when it came for her to be sold I couldn't let her go! But then when you get a feral pony and get it used to being handled, then backing her and riding her away you develop a bond!
Flatwork needs improving but she loves to jump! Last year we were still getting to know each other but this year I think we are a pretty good team.

This is Alice. She is a 15 yr old TB x Dutch WB 16.1 hh I have had her for a month. I got her to restore my confidence and to enjoy after having to let my previous horse who was very difficult go back to an old owner of his from a few years ago as she is the only person ever who can handle him/bring out the best in him despite my best efforts. I nearly didnt get another horse....but then Alice came along and we clicked straight away. She was an Intermediate eventer had a foal came back to work then had another foal and is now at the mo just doing hacking with me as she is brought back into work.
She is absolutely gorgeous, forward going and spooky enough to keep you on your toes and not let you get bored but is good as gold. She has the most amusing snort when she spooks at something which has me in fits of laughter!
I got her from a friend of mine who had had her for 9 or so years and let her come to me as she didnt want to sell/loan her out to strangers....but also didnt have the time to bring her back into work due to having 2 youngsters (alices babies) to work with. So it was a perfect situation all round.
Am going to start doing some flatwork in the school with her very soon. I think she is going to teach me a hell of a lot as she has literally done everything and i havent done alot of dressage etc which im quite looking forwards to getting into more. She is perfect to do in every way and has the manners of a saint.
But generally we are going to hack, enjoy each others company, some schooling, some local shows and things like that, fun stuff.
But she is absoultely gorgeous and i love her to pieces.
Sorry i rambled....as per normal!!

This is Pharaoh. He is a NFxTB that I got as a 2yo just over 5 years ago. Honestly he wasnt an ideal first pony (I was lucky to have had experience before him though) and I can't say that I would recommend anyone do the same but he has taught me so, so much. We have had loads of ups and downs over the years especially with the rig op, and his uveitus that was down to a freak reaction caused by the rig operation (very very rare and only recently linked it - he is one of a handful of known cases in the UK with ERU as a symptom of something else). He is a quirky little thing but is good once he's realised that you arent going to take any sillyness :p When he's in work he does all the usual things but he does like visits from the vet! Unfortunately he is close to be pts thanks to the eye condition but I won't bore everyone with that lol.
Most recent pic - second ride in 'new' saddle... 2 days before he goes and cuts his pastern open again!

I'm also riding an 11.2hh and he is brilliant, one of these ponies you wish were several hands bigger because although he's green he's brilliant and is so fun!

This is Belle, 16.3hh ISH, just turned 6 and have had her for just over 6 months now. She is such a genuine little thing although hates being groomed, the little munchkin. After a lot of work we are off to her first dressage outing next weekend, hopefully she will turn into a dressage horse but if not never mind she can be a yummy mummy instead!!! :D

This is Zorro, he's 15 years old. I've had him 7 months. Previous owner had him for 10 months and changed his name so any information anyone may have would be appreciated!

He was left in a field for the last few years so has low mileage but can be very nappy alone as a result of this (and due to human error previously..but won't go into that)!!!

this is Ben. 14 yrs, 13.3 nf cross possibly arab. i've had him a year and a half and he's my second horse and he's here to stay. i adore him!! he was with a pony club family for 2 yrs and before that, he did dresssage. he's a family pet now, i hack him, do a bit of jumping at home and my kids sometimes ride him. he's so laid back and easy to handle, brilliant in the school with kids onboard, but comes alive when there are jumps in front of him and is super fun out hacking. he has speed!!!!!!!!!! loves to race with his gelding friend and outrun all his mare friends. we went to our first show last sunday and had lots of fun.

last yr, he bolted with me out on the Downs, probably due to changing his bit. i lost a lot of confidence and he totally took the pee out of me for months to follow. but i stuck with it and after 7 months, he is back under control and i can take him pretty much anywhere. altho there are certain routes where he gets overexcited on the way home and i hve to wedge him firmly behind other horses to slow him down!!! but i love his sparkle else i'd be bored.

Phil is a 15.2hh 10 year old welsh cob. He's done absoloutly nothing and people love to put us down. His weight has always been an issue but thanks to a very rude forum member I got it sorted and for the past two years we have had a fantastic time. I bought him when he was rising two and I was 12. Backed and bought him on myself but due to bad falls we did little more than trot on the lunge until he was 8. As I was off to uni we found him a loaner who had no issues, got on, and did what I had wanted to with no issues. Unfortunately things were a little complicated and he had the winter off before finding another loaner, she did amazing things for his confidence and mine. She moved so he had his third loaner in November of last year who lasted until April.

Thanks to all those who have helped me without making me feel crap I am now to the point where I am cantering and jumping confidently bareback. In 2008 I wouldn't even trot him off of the lunge. For this entire summer I have been without a saddle and our relationship has never been better. He's currently looking for a loan home for my final year of uni. I hope someone nice finds him. He deserves it. He's nothing special, will never make a top class competitor, but he will never fail to make you smile, try his little heart out and is a fun ride.

Ollie has been with a week and an hour :D
So far he has had his head blown to bits and its due to get worse tomorrow :( However, he has taken everything in his stride so far.

Ollie came to me having done nothing for 9 months, both under saddle and in hand! He is a 16.2hh ex racer. When I got him last week, we had a bargey pony and one that refused to be stabled.
05092010018.jpg

A week on, I have one that knows how to scare me to death (and is currently looking for a new home for this reason) and loves his stable :D :D :D :D
05092010022.jpg

hehe we are getting there slowly but surely and each day we have a new achievement!! Todays achievement was to go into the field on his own and into the stable, and then to add insult to injury I attempted to lunge him (he can do trot on command, however forget walk and canter lol).
Bless him, its so hard for him at the moment :D

Any excuse to post pics! This is porridge, she is a 16.2 oldenburg and is 11 years old. Neither of us will amount to anything competitively but we have lots of fun, she is an awesome hunter, loves to jump and is a great all rounder as well as quite a character! :)

what a lovely thread!

this is Ron - he's 16.2h, and somewhere between 15 and 17 depending whether you believe his passport or his teeth! His passpory says "breeding - Irish" but I suspect he's ID or IDx. We do a bit of everything, but live for our hunting and love XC.

This is Tom - my sisters horse. He's 16h, 16 years old. Out of a 14.1 welsh pony mare by a 17.2 hannoverian coloured stallion. He's a giant in-your-face over grown pony, and winds me up no end, but my sister loves him. His thing is SJ, and has been known to jump 1m40, but mostly competes at about 1m when my sister is home from Uni. during term time my OH hacks him out to keep him moderately fit.

Macauley, otherwise known as moo is my 13 year old mare 15hh who i got 2 years ago from an over weight man that had only hunted her and blew her brains out. Needless to say took a lot of work to get her back to the point where i just tack her up and take her in the field without her bombing off, now an absolute angel for me does anything i ask, but if anyone else gets on her will resort back to her old tricks. She's staying with me for life!
SDC12721.jpg

My other horse Tiesto, that is currently out on loan for a year due to my dad's serious accident, but can't wait for him to come home in 6 months, plan to event him, he's a giant 17.2hh and still growing 6yr old ISH

Ted a pure clydesdale I have no idea where he is going to finish height wise but its part of the fun :p He is 3 years old and I have high hopes for him, he can jump (loose jumping only at this stage) he moves beautifully, so I want him to everything but at the moment we just show and he learns!
