Hi, I'm really interested in seeing pics of your Highland x Arabs, and reading any snippets you may like to tell me about this cross.

I have an elderly Arab x Welsh B at the mo and love the Arab loyalty and politeness and spirit (without being too daft) she has. I also love a good Highland - I wonder if this cross could potentially lead me to my ideal pony (obviously I know there's more to it than that, but just want to see what this cross can produce!). Would like to know what heights they reached, activities, temperament, anything. Thank you!

Sorry I don't have any pictures but I have known two, they're not a cross I would ever have thought of having but would certainly look at in the future without hesitation.

The first was a mare my son had when she was five, she was a full up 14.2hh and did well at all PC competitions qualifying for the Dengie sj finals and also Trailblazers etc. She had the most amazing scopey jump and we went on to do some affiliated jumping with her too, qualifying for a couple of classes at Scope. Her only downfall was that she occasionally took "stage fright" for no apparent reason but other than that was a fantastic pony. We then bred a foal from her, putting her to Stanhopes Diddicoy in the hope of getting a small horse but the foal only made 14hh. She inherited her mum's huge jump and has gone on to do well in WHP and also competed in affiliated horse classes up to Newcomers sucessfully.

The second is a working livery, he is about 15.2hh and a lovely chap, not quite as much spark as the mare but incredibly honest and will turn his hoof to anything. He does RDA work and yet can step up several gears when required. Sadly his owner doesn't have the means to get him out and about much but he has schooled round some BE 100 fences well and is the ideal type for PC/RC activities. He really is an absolute gem and worth his weight in gold!

I known a lot of highlands in my time but not any crosse with Arabs. I imagine if you got it right then it could be lovely, but I imagine saddle fitting would/ could be a nightmare. I have seen some cracking highland x TB and I've always said one day I'll have one.

I'm pretty sure that a member of this forum had a highland mare that they bred to H Tobago, but i can't remember their name. Maybe someone else does?

My first pony was an Arab x Highland - the MOST stubborn pony in the world but absolutely brilliant and gorgeous. We had a go at pretty much everything but jumping was her thing - she had a massive jump and would have a go at just about anything. Would love to have another one day...

...tiptoes off to try to find H Tobago x Highland babies for sale... :-)

I've got a highland arab cross. Would love to pics but I can only access forum via my phone, so can't do photos. Can post them onto twitter though @cakerdeath42
I've known 3 highland/arab crosses and their lovely but 'opinionated' bought mine cheap as she was a kicker and biter. The trouble with this cross is that there naturally stubborn and opinionated but are hot blooded enough to make there feelings known.
Mines is great at endurance, low heart rate and can trot/canter for many many mines. She's also very intelligent, can be taught a new trick in under 3 sessons (we do trick training, it's fascinating to see her figure stuff out so quickly)
As springtime said though, nite mare to get a saddle to fit and getting the girth tight is a particular problem. Stands all fat and highland like to tack up, once in canter, or spooked, she raises her tail and sucks her belly up. Suddenly that girths about 4/5 holes to long!
She is very hardy and very loyal.
Basically not the easiest of crosses, but great fun and beautyful if you've got lots of patience.
