So you may remember me: after acquiring my 4 year old new forest and discovering he wasn't quite so far in his training as I'd previously thought!
Well 3 months on and he is coming along beautifully :-) so much so that I am now contemplating a show name and was hoping you lovely people might be able to help me with something clever and witty! :-) his name is Billy, he's a bay new forest and a real cheeky chap!

Thanks in advance :-)

I agree with what the others have said- I think its a good name.

I know you may not like it, but there are certain advantages of using the name thats on the passport. If you do showing/competing and he builds a name for himself and ever end up selling him then Its an extra hassle for you/buyers to have to change the passport name, particularly if he's registered with a certain society as that.

Personally, Id stick with the name on the passport. I am not a masive fan of my horses name, but as its on the passport that is what I have stuck with.

A few pics for you :-)

not the best pic as hes on uneven ground but this is Billy aka Falconers Marching Lad

sorry for my fat bum! this is just a sweet picture of his face :-)

This is my 6 year daughters Welsh Section A 'Echo' aka Princess Echo Beach

and finally my 4 year old on Bumble the Exmoor pony

Hi! Thanks for the support on the name. I am sorry his owner doesn't like it but as I bred him I do. LOL.

I always try to pick a name that combines sire and dam's if I can. "Archie", now known as "Billy", was born on the 31st March and his dam is Millersford Strawberry Girl. His grandsire is Knightsway Billy Boy. I am so pleased that he's doing well.

Personal circumstances meant I had to cut down on numbers and I lost track of him, although I did send a letter to the new owners listed in the NF stud book and had no reply. Please if you want more info and pics etc contact me as I would love to hear about all about him now and how he is getting on.

How lovely that you are interested. The breeders of my pony havent answered any of my communications :(

Its always right to use the registered name for a show name as it gives the breeder a nod of recognition and helps build their reputation

I like the name and hope that the OP stuck with it

I have stuck with it and have actually grown to like it :-)
I had no idea he used to be called Archie! I much prefer that to billy... Sadly he has got used to the name billy though so changing it is out of the question :-( Archie is lovely though x

When I saw this post I knew who'd bred this pony and immediately thought how disappointed she would be if his name was altered. I only know of her from a different forum but have always thought she was a nice person and bred some nice ponies, albeit just a couple of foals, not a big breeder. Hopefully OP you will now understand the thoughts behind his name and be proud of it and him?
