Show Pony Breeding

I have recently bought an 8 year old mare as a blank canvas from the field, after basically being an field ornament all her life, and I have been questioning the potential of breeding her due to her incredible movement and sweet temperament. I don't, however, know much about show ponies and she was bred to be a show hunter pony. Having looked through her pedigree I have noticed some names that seem familiar, but being more of a dressage rider, I don't know much about them. Could anyone enlighten me about these stallions and if they are sought after breeding lines?

BELWINS GIFT OF LIBERTY
CUSOP FINGERPRINT
BWLCH VALENTINO
TRELLECH COURVOISIER
SMALL-LAND MAMBRINO

Whilst I would be pairing her to stallion with good breeding, I would prefer to only go through with it if the pedigree of my mare was decent too :)

Bwlch Valentino was one of the major sires in British riding pony history.

Courvoisier and Fingerprint (who I particularly loved) have Valentino on both sides.

Mambrino was Welsh/TB lines.

Valentino is legendary. The other three were all succesful stallions, with desirable blood lines

I would put it to a native. In reality there is not much of a market for show ponies, some studs have been breeding 10's at a time, and then is nothing worse trying to produce or sell a not quite good enough show pony, some are too sharp and a devil to keep weight on. If you produce a pony that is a nice pony to do anything, from PC upwards, but you can tidy it up to do SH, or SHP,
I never really look at breeding, only to check they are not too closely related, I choose a stallion that has been ridden, hopefully has competed, and is a type that will X well. Breeding is not cheap, its money wasted really, I have spent thousands to get one foal, so now I buy them in,
Before you decide I would have a look at the sale websites, because if you need to sell it, things happen, you need to know how your investment will do.

If she is very correct and a good mover I would definitely be looking to put a riding pony stallion on her.

Lots of breeders either stopped or cut down on breeding a few years ago because buyers wanted to pay peanuts.

Producers now cannot source good ponies. My mum breeds first riddens and she has cut right back. She has had so many calls this year from people looking for ponies.

The producers do want top class stuff but if your mare is correct and an extravagant mover then there's no reason she wouldn't produce something lovely and her temperament is a massive.bonus
.

It's a long term investment and not cheap but you could have some fun showing in hand while you wait to sell if you fancied it.

PS if your mare is 14.2 there is a desperate shortage of good 14.2s ATM.

That sounds very positive but do you know why she has been in the field most of her life? Just in case there's a reason that would make breeding problematic.

I know she has never been bred and was kept by her breeder till early this year because she is the granddaughter of the breeders old pony (she has her name for this reason). From what I have been able to find out the breeder has a whole field of horses that she had never been able to let go and it was a forced stud reduction that caused the sale.

she is roughly 14-14.2hh. I haven't actually measured her yet but she is definitely not the 13.2hh she was advertised as!

I don't have many pictures as she is a field pony right now. I am torn between breeding her or selling her on as I don't know when I will have the facilitates to back her and she is nothing like what I originally set out to buy. I just couldn't bring myself to walk away when I met her. I do think she would make a wonderful all-round competition pony for a competitive teen.

I forgot to add into this, the women who I purchased her from bought the pony early this year from the breeder. She had wanted to back her but didn't have the time and was in the process of buying a house so needed to sell her on.

Is she a Doylan pony?

She has some very good old stallions in her pedigree. Valentino is legendary and Smalland Mambrino was an exceedingly successful sire, also of hacks if I remember rightly. You won't make any money breeding though....
