Show pony clip

Last year I initially clipped our lead rein pony from the back of her chin/jaw and down her neck. I just did it from the front, so that side on, she didn't look clipped. It made her look really neat, but we show M&M anyway. I cant really justify a full clip on a lead rein as they are not doing enough work. Also, if you do this, be prepared for the pony to be much sharper. After Christmas, I gave the pony an irish hunter clip as we were planning a few early shows, showing clinic and PC. However I really regretted it as it took ages for her to lose her coat in spring and she was definitely sharper which wasn't ideal. This year, I'm planning to either not clip, or just do a minimal clip, although she's now doing much more faster work with my little one off lead rein.

If you're planning on doing county level:

If she's a lead rein show pony, take it all off from top of her ears to bottom of her fetlocks, leaving the mane and tail of course. If it's lead rein pony of show hunter type take it all except the legs (classic hunter clip). If it's m&m try and not clip if you possibly can, the judges don't like it and technically you're not supposed to unless the pony is an m&m worker hunter pony. If you really feel you have to clip do a classic hunter so you don't damage the feathers, and check with the breed society about facial hair. We never clipped the chin/underneath of our working hunter fell pony as their beard/jaw hair is part of the breed standard.

If you're not doing county level, I'd do whatever clip you really think the pony needs.

Ahh brill thanks everyone, not going out now till the new year so will hold off clipping until then as she's not doing masses! Thanks for all your help!
