Took Alfie to a show today, he is no show horse but he needed experience of being ridden in a busy environment in preparation for doing a bit of dressage over the winter! Friend got him ready last night and plaited him and put him in a lycra bodysuit - he was NOT amused when we laughed at him!! He was a very good boy staying in last night as he normally lives out.
Got to the show with plenty of time to spare, thought I may as well do a couple of inhand classes, left him on the trailer to settle, got numbers etc. Then took him off for his first class - novice horse or pony. There were some very nice quality horses in there and I didn't think we stood a chance as Alf has "interesting" comformation and a bump on his knee (doesn't affect him just cosmetic) I was shocked to be pulled in 3rd out of 11!! He did show his lovely manners though and the judge
rewarded that!!
We then had a break and after that went into colour and markings, again 12ish in the class and some super quality animals - Alf came 4th!! again he was just such a good lad (apart from trying to nip me in front of the judge, cheeky sod!!)
then we did what we came to do, popped his saddle on and took him for a quiet hack and school around the showground, well, what can I say? He was SUPER, very well behaved so he did 15mins with his regular rider and called it a day on a brilliant note!!
Absolutely over the moon with the funny little fellow!!
One lady did have a moan about his show name though - I call him "All spare parts" because that is what he is!!
here he is - Alfie!! excuse my fatness I am trying to shift the excess!
Look at those donkey ears!
