What an early start i had today, however task in hand was to qualify for the P UK novice workers class at Keighley.
Taf was 2nd in and did a beautiful jump round very flowing and rhythmic plenty of scope over jumps and went clear - he came out and both me and jockey were absolutely thrilled! Did individual show which went fine except thought he was going to through a buck in on the extended canter so he took the reins rather sharp but other than that absolutely fine!
We thought we could afford to lose a point there as he had done so well in the jumping and all in all should have no problem qualifying there was only 5 in the class and one had 2 refusals.

Anyway having received the worst marks for confirmation and style and performance over jumps we ended up 4th??????????????
I dont mind not getting first but he really did deserve to get placed today, so i asked the judge for his feedback, which was!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't have enough bone for me????????????????????????????????????????

Needless to say - i think i've heard it all now?

Hm. Hate showing. Too subjective!!!!! Will stick to jumping, or at least will as soon as...., at least it's either cleared or it aint (even allowing for Luck of the lack of it on the day

I said that myself today, i did think working hutner would have to be fairer and less down to the judges discretion than ridden showing however that is obviously not the case.
I must say though, we were absolutely thrilled with him today he has only been jumping a couple of months and we couldn't have asked anymore of him.
I have made a mental note of the judge and will not be attending any shows where he is judging in future!
Did forget to mention the horse is 15.1h and 550kg with just under 9" of bone - not exactly fine!

And thats exactly why I don't show!

Sorry, but if I put in all the hours of practise at home, turned up with an immaculate horse who puts in a good performance, only to have a judge who basically says 'your horses' legs are too skinny' I'd find myself jumping off and decking them one!

Yep, I'm with Ziggy

And I'm usually such a calm person.

Have a friend who does WH - one judge doesn't like him cos he's a big hoss. He's a big hoss that looks like, well, he looks like a hunter! Big strong bones, good conformation, etc etc etc. Another jusdge likes him cos he's big, has lots of bone, good conformation, and he looks like a hunter. Hey ho.

I did have to restrain myself from swearing at the silly old codger, however having spent the last 10 years learning how to control my temper i try not to lose it these days - or is that i have just got 10 years older???
Anyway it has made my decision for me my fab little sec d will be going up for sale after the winter champs next year, I just hope the market has picked up a bit by then couldnt possibly give him away!

Thats why I don't go showing I'm afraid. My RI thinks that I could do well in coloured or working hunter classes but I don't want to put in hours of work to be told that they don't like horses with blue eyes etc.

That and i hate bathing all the white bits

why don't we swap!!??? i was told my sec D had too much bone and would make a better show cob than an M&M!!!! that's why i don't show much......i just go when the mood takes me!!

All judges preference eh! What bone has to do with jumping beats me mind! And how it could reduce your confirmation score by 50% is also a strange one - but i guess thats why i'm not a judge!
Saying that i'd be very fair if i was

[/ QUOTE ] If you want to be judged on just jumping alone, why not just do straight-forward show jumping!

I have a welsh cob, my horse excels in the show ring and has a very nice collected jump he jumps 3'6" with ease, i dont want a pony that zooms round at 100miles per hour. He has never been placed below 3rd until yesterday and law of averages say the judge yesterday was judging a different horse - i show all affiliated so there shouldn't be such a big differnece between scores each time. He came first out of 10 a couple of weeks ago and yesterday did a better round of jumps he was amazing. Just peaved off with such ridiculous comments from the judge thats all, i'd have felt better if he'd have had fences down or had pinged from fence to fence!

What a stupid judge!! Glad I didn't go now......I have a love hate relationship with showing....when I was 13 I came last in a shetland young handler class, found out later that the judge thought the pony had 'obviously been professionally schooled'!!!

I was fuming, I had had her since she was a baby and she was only ever schooled by me....the judge neglected to ask this and just presumed!!!

Then at Anglesey show a good few years ago she was placed last because 'I didn't trim her jawline and ears'.....what the h*ll has that to do with her conformation etc??? I think that was the last big show I took her to, I couldn't be bothered with the idiots...

Who was judging??

The world of WHP is just the same as the %'s mean that conformation still takes your mark down if they score it lower.

I have no expectations of winning any classes anymore, so long as the horse does well then I'm happy.

Did you get your new wagon in the end??
