I love your class 48 for the "terrified rider". I was at a jumping show on Saturday and we were laughing about this very thing saying there should be a class for the nervous middleaged numpties of which I am one. We had 4 competitors straight away for that class, and could all think of more who could be persuaded to enter such a class.

Good luck, that schedule looks like you'll need a lot of helpers!

Would it not just be easier if all classes cost say £4 or £5.00? It would probably speed things up processing entries apart from hopefully raising a bit more.
Also, quite often all lead rein entries (ridden show class) get a rosette.

i would split the ridden M&M in to smalls and large, not very fair on children with tinys such as shetties and sec a's to be dwarfed/trampled by sec d's!!, it's also awkard dodging/getting stuck behind small ponies when riding a big moving large breed.
the other thing i'm not keen on is mixing in-hand and ridden exibits, but apart from that, it looks excellent, a real something for everyone show, anbd i wish you the best of luck!!

Would you like me to send you info on risk assessment & how to prepare an event saftey file? It's essential that you have these prepared as in the case of any incident arising they are the first thing that the insurance companies or other official bodies will want to see.

My, goodness, you have been busy!!

I do hope you manage to get enough people to help before, on and after the day. Judging by the amount of rings you have you'll need at least 60, incl. Judges, Stewards, runners, secretaries, jump commentators, arena parties (several for each jumping course), caterers, lorry park attendants etc.

From a Judge's point of view, I find it rather difficult to Judge if some of the competitors are on the leading rein, when others in the same class, are not. Neither is it safe to have Large Breeds in with Smalls.

DO check on your spelling:-

PLACING - NOT placeing

ADAPTABILITY - NOT adapatability

RACING - NOT raceing

OBEDIENT - NOT obediant

I would still put height restrictions on the following classes:-

2, 3, 4 & 5, and 18, 19 & 20., as you have in Ring 4.

When does this show take place? There seem to be a great many classes in each ring, and unless you have brilliant Stewards, allowing 35 - 45 minutes per class, possibly more, you may find you'll be finishing some rings in the dark!! You haven't allowed for lunch-breaks, at least half an hour for a proper lunch sitting down at a table for Judges and Stewards. This is a must - from a Judge's point of view it is a welcome chance to recharge our batteries before we continue into the afternoon.

Keep at it - you'll get there in the end - and good luck!!

As an M&M large breed owner i tend to avoid the classes where smalls and larges are in the same class. It gets very dangerous and some of the large breeds like the section D's can be rather highly strung. there also tends to be a few stallions in the large breeds.
Little children do not always keep thier distance or have no concept of that fact that some horses dont like being used as a bumper and i have had a few use my ponies backend as a brake (thank god he isnt inclied to kick) before i decided i was not willing to take the risk. the majority of small breeds are ridden by small children, some are fresh off the lead rein, some are brilliant little riders but quite a few have minimal control. a kick from a pony the size of the large breeds can kill a child and on 11hh and 12hh ponies they are at the perfect height for the kick to connect with thier head. It is not safe to put small and large breeds in together, i will not be responsable for injuring a child so i wont put myself in the position where it could happen and i do know several mums who wont put thier kids in that position either. your entries may suffer if you put smalls and larges in together.

I also dont think it is fair to the children when the rosettes are given out, children feel better if they have been beaten by other children rather then adults and it will mean more children going home with rosettes (thus happier children) if you split them.

When we ran a show, we (my mum and I) made sure that every child got a rosette, even if it was a small 'special' rosette or 'highly commended' its the perfect way to encourage the children and it stops those placed last from ending in tears.

I replied in a similar vein on an earlier thread regarding this topic.
I also have to agree that as a judge I too find it very hard to judge mixed ridden & in hand classes, along with lead reins & non lead reins in the same ridden class.
I also think that a show of this size is totally the wrong place for people with the very limited experience that some of the classes are aimed at to be, & it is for that reason that I've offered assistance with the risk assessment / event safety file, so that at least SF can make sure that she's covered herself in that aspect of event managment.

I was wondering if you'd put together a schedule yet!

Sounds like a fun day - will you be printing out the schedules? It's great that you've catered for the more nervous among us, too!!

Did you drop the proposed Cleveland Bay classes, or have I missed them?
