Actually, I'm not even sure it's called that...
Anyway, someone here wants my mum to bring him a gallon or so of something called show shine (or similar) and I told him my mum is carrying all my stuff, so can't possibly bring a gallon of that cr@p back with her, but I would ask you clever peeps for a good substitute he could get from the supermarket if possible (remember I live miles away from civilization)
He looked very, very unconvinced when I suggested furniture polish!

When washing a tail I use a squirt of baby oil in the rinse water. Has a similar effect to spray on show shine, gives a nice shine, helps with the tangles and repels the dust and dirt. Sure it would work if you put some in a spray bottle to use all over, would not smell as perfumed as the "real" stuff but sure you could think of something. Baby oil is much cheaper too.

He could use a human 2in1 shampoo (ie shampoo + conditioner) when bathing the horse, or if he wants something he can use without bathing then a human spray-on shine of some description - Schwarzkopf Gliss Shine Tonic is very good if you can get it over there. Otherwise, as others have said, baby oil is good.

I would never use Baby Oil ever agin..i used to use it on horse's i got ready for showing (to clients) but I saw a horse one day who had burns on his bum, from baby oil (not me..) It had been a hot day, and the oil on his bum had caused the skin to burn from the sun. This was in Scotland. I believe Argentina is a bit hotter?

Show shine is good stuff and was made pacifically for use on horses. (cows etc) or go with the vinegar suggestion.

In a spray bottle: Add 1/4 cup of baby oil to 2 cups of water, then add 4 tablespoons of cider vinegar. Spray on. Shake before each use.

Or you can try this slightly different alternative: 1/4 cup baby oil, 1/4 cup human hair conditioner, 1/4 cup water, 2 table spoons vinegar (helps as a fly repellent as well!)

I rub my boy over with vinegar, I use a hot towel wringed out from a bucket of hotish water with vinegar added. Find it works well at cleaning them up and making them shiny (well it does on my black horse, especially when he's clipped!).

Human hair detangler (especially the ones for kids), supermarkets own brand seems to work fine. Several on the yard use when brushing out tails instead of show sheen.

I used it on Pickle's very long mane - disaster - it irritated her skin where the mane lay & she rubbed herself raw before I realised what had caused it & had to thoroughly shampoo her hair. Since then I have used human hair conditioner to detangle.

i was told Mr Sheen. And somone also told me - not sure if you can get them in Argentina (sorry if I sound a bit thick) but those sponges you get for cleaning your shoes. Just fit into your hand and are a sponge which comes in a little plastic tray to keep the "shine" in them. They are already impregnated with shoe polish. But just gently groom the horse over with it (test area first). Not scrup so it goes onto the skin. Works great on dark horses obviously!!!!
