I have clipped my welsh Sec C this winter with a chaser clip and he's now ready to be done again...my only thought is what to do as i am hoping to show him in hand but he is a Palomino and his winter coat is white and his summer coat chestnut/ginger lol Hence this wont look very good when his coat comes through - i'm thinking tiger stripes!

My question is what should i do...clip him fully so it all grows back one colour or is this cruel if he lives out? He has access to his stables at night if he wants to and is fully rugged to his ears. Will i get placed down if he has clip marks??

I can only tell you what I would do. I show natives so they have to have feather, therefore I take absolutely everything off except the legs and whiskers to eliminate clip lines. If I didn't need to keep the feather I would take the legs off too.

mine lives out 24/7 she is fully clipped -she has a shelter - i think as long as she is rugged she is fine.
i think if you plan to show its not a problem to take it all off.

I don't clip mine (arab) through the winter because of this reason ha ha I just keep him really rugged up before he gets a full winter coat

I would do what mother_hen said though

In the winter judges don't penalise you for showing a clipped horse. Genie has a hunter clip to avoid having lots of lines, but will probably still have leg lines at the end of April (albeit faint, but still visible), and we were not knowingly penalised for it last year.

judges shouldnt penalise you showing a clipped horse. but there are clips and clips and i have never yet met a horse whose conformation is maximised by a chase clip which can only be described as functional! it cuts up the conformation all wrong and can make a lovely horse look really bad on an optical illusion. i would hunter clip now to maximise conformation for the early shows and rug well.

Thanx for all the advice..i can see a phone call to my clipper friend being made tomorrow

He currently has a 350g full neck rug on with an under rug on standby so may opt for the hunter clip or full clip and leave the legs

thanks all!
