I am planning on showing my new loan horse, a 15.2hh cob, Moose! Having only ever had my tb it is a bit of a difference lol :D I only want to do local shows but want some advice. First of all, what sort of classes can we enter? She is hogged and feathers off and has just been clipped last night, everything off apart from the legs. She is only 5 so just want to get some experience under her belt for the moment.
What should I be wearing? Tweed or black/navy? and can i get away with my jodhpur boots because i dont actually own ant long ones

obviously cob classes, family/riding club horse classes and then things like best condition

If she is a coloured cob then coloured classes

Not hunter classes

Tweed for you, long boots are correct. jod boots will have to do but if you can get some nice half chaps so they look like long boots all the better, you're more likely to get away with jod boots if you are young

Shirt, tie, brown gloves, brown show cane

Plain hunter bridle with cavesson noseband on the horse

Your jacket shoud be tweed and if you don't have long boots you could wear your jodhpur boots and gaiters at a local show. If there is a cob class you could enter that but if not, you could put her in RC horse or perhaps an equitation class for the experience.

ETA, as you are 15 short boots will be fine.

Don't know where in South Yorks you are, but Maltby Riding club (I'm on the committee) do a cob class for cobs - traditional/maxis/cobletts - if it looks like a cob, it's welcome! We also do beginners and novice showing classes for new combinations, so if you're close enough, come and join us!

Riding or inhand? Check the height limits of you're doing inhand cob classes, the limit is usually 153cm, I believe.

Not 153cms! The affiliated cob class limit is 155cms which is 15.1hh but most people are not very good at measuring or guessing the height of their horses and many times I've been to see a 15hh hunter pony type that when I've turned up was lucky if it was 14hh.
There are also maxi cob classes with no height limit and most local shows don't put height limits on their classes

The season has closed now, I doubt you will find cob classes until spring.

Thank you for all the replies! I have bought a pair of gaiters and my tweed jacket, my local riding club do shows throughout the winter so I'll have a few chances to get her out and about, as I said she is still a baby really so I just want to get her the experience of being at a show
