Am I ever going to do well in showing if Pippa has scars on her legs?
She has a large over reach scar and a few small scars on her hind legs.
It will only be reasonably local shows i will be doing, but everytime i go forwards to be judged, they look at her legs, frown and scribble on their board

It doesnt affect her movement in any way...
Would make Up work (horsey obv)?
Just would like to do quite well, but then again its only a bit of fun

I have been doing a bit of in hand showing with my 4 yr old this year at local level. She has a very bad scar on her fetlock that I cover with shoe polish.
She has been in the ribbons everytime out, so it doesn't seem to affect her placings.

I have no intention of showing her under saddle or at a higher level, so will never know if it would affect her placings in the future.

Definitely yes

I use the polish that comes in a tube with the sponge on the end, makes it easier to apply.
It does a really good job of covering it

At local level you will be fine. Obviously - if first place was between you and another horse that didnt have scars, the liklihood would be that the other horse would win - but locally it shouldnt matter too much. My horse had a scar, as did my friends horse - and we always fought each other for 1st place - with the other coming 2nd!

Shoe polish is OK on black legs (tho you might want to patch test..I'm paranoid about causing allergic reactions) but chestnuts are harder to colour match and if it's not spot on it will draw attention to the scars rather than hide them. Both Gold Label and Supreme Products do horse make up, worth a try.

What type is she? Scars cannot be counted against a horse in a working hunter class.

This is interesting, my horse has splints, can I take him in a working hunter class? I have always wanted to do one with him but never thought I could (local shows only)

hermangerman Id think ye u cud without much issues (obv again vs a perfect horse, might not place higher but wudnt be held against him otherwise)

I agree with ironhorse about polish, on blacks its fine, chestnuts is more of an issue and makeup would be a better way forward me thinks!

and yes in show hunter it is noted, so better the makeup the better chance of placing higher!
